Do NOT look at your hole cards until the action is on you. Instead keep your focus on the other players and how they react to their cards.
As for hiding tells...I'm never going to be capable of being Joe Stoneface at a poker table,it just ain't me. So I take the opposite approach and try to act a little schizo at the table (OK...it's not really an act...

) so in essence I'm kind of "false-flagging" the other people at the table. Or at least I hope so. What you're really going to want to look for is whether or not players seem to be acting against you as if they DO have a read on you and whether or not their actions are correct based upon that possible read. THAT'S what you need to be worried about. If no one is taking any type of consistent action against you then you're probably mixing things up well enough to keep them on their toes and off balance.
Just be as relaxed as possible and have fun. That's really the best approach. A more relaxed player exudes more of an air of confidence than an uptight,generally miserable type of behavior.
