PokerPages FREE School Contributor Jason Pohl

Jason Pohl played his first hand of poker when he was seven years old at the dinner table during a family reunion. His love of probability, games, and competition made poker a natural fit. After viewing Rounders and The Cincinnati Kid, Jason began playing regularly for the first time in early 1999. He soon discovered Texas Hold'em and online poker, and he began playing poker almost daily.

Before joining the ranks of poker professionals, Jason worked at a major telecommunications company. In early 2003, after discovering and competing at shorthanded games on multiple sites for four years, Jason left his management position to compete professionally full-time. Leaving the corporate ranks to compete in online cash games, he is living a real-life fantasy. While largely ignoring tournaments and live cash games, Jason has several thousands of hours of experience playing online poker, particularly at 5- or 6-handed tables. He continues to strive to better himself each day, and desires nothing more than to continue in his chosen profession for the rest of his life.

Jason began writing articles for Poker Pages in 2002. Jason has commented on a range of topics including professionalism in poker, corporate sponsorship in poker's future, and the credibility of instruction throughout the poker world. However, Jason's main focus has continued to be in-depth analysis of shorthanded poker games. Utilizing his experience and the combined resources of the best poker advice offered in the last 20 years, Jason's goal is to offer in-depth analysis and a consistent, profitable overall strategy for the online games of today.

Jason has been married since 2001 to his wife, Carri. Carri's wonderful qualities are only highlighted by the fact she let him quit a solid, stable job for a career as a professional gambler. Jason's hobbies include watching movies, participating in several fantasy football contests annually, and bowling in leagues and competitions. He also spends considerable time with family and friends, travels often, and loves to read.
