Time to give up poker?

By: !Seven!No7 @ 22:51 (EDT) / 510 / Comment ( 2 )

Ive been playing for around 2 months now and got off to a bad start. I was losing with super strong starting hands like AA, KK and QQ, the hands that were beating were stupid donkey hands like K7, 95 etc.....

After a few weeks of constant pure bad luck and ruining my stats I started to think "Why am I bothering". I know if luck wasn't involved (good or bad) then I could cash. I got the patants I know what hands I should play and when to play them. Then my luck changed! I wouldn't say I was running lucky, I would say I had my fair share of good and bad luck, but most of the time I didnt need luck because I started my hands ahead and finished ahead. With this change, I managed to finished in good cash position on a few occasions and this wasn't from luck, it was from playing well and not running into bad luck. Bad luck had gone and I am now enjoying poker alot! But this fairness wasn't to last.

After a few nice cash finishes, bad luck started to creep back in and I found myself losing again to people who are just pure lucky! I don't mind if sometime I was to lose to a good starting hand but not quite as good as mine, but losing to pure donk hands I can't take! I was back to losing with AA to 95 off suit.  I know it is possible that AA does not always win everytime, however, when I am losing every game due to someone lucking out or me being dealt high pocket pair and someone else being dealt a higher pocket pair, I feel I just can't get a break. I feel I am losing to everything!

As I said, I start with unreal bad luck and I battle through until it passed. Then I was running fair, not good or lucky, just fair with some ups and downs. But with this unreal (I MEAN UNREAL!!!!!!) bad coming back, I don't see the point in carrying on. My bankroll has gone bust! I am pumping money into my account to battle through this bad luck again, my stats are completely ruined and I am just not enjoy throwing my money away. I honestly feel I am making the right play, however, it makes no difference because they get lucky anyway.

This is one example of my 12th loss of today.

I am on the big blind and I get dealt A7 hearts. First to act folds and second folds then third puts min raise in and then everyone else folds around to me and I call. The blinds are $1000 and $2000. I didn't want to risk to much chips becauuse there is a high chance I am up against a better kicker, anyway, the flop come A74. I got two pair and know I am in good shape so I check to the raiser to see what they will do. They put a bet $4000 in, so I am thinking they got ace with good kicker or maybe pocket 1010 or JJ. s I got two pair and $18000 chips left, I shove, only to be called by A8. Amazing!!! I got them slammed!!! Turn comes Q then river comes Q. They win because they got AA QQ 8 and I got AA QQ 7. See so now it is clear that I was super unlucky, however, this is just one of sooooooo many.

What is the point in carrying on? I can't afford to keep putting money in my account just to have it robbed from me. Because this is what is happening, I am being robbed! I am putting my money in when I am ahead and after ive committed then others are hitting everything. I really do feel as if I am being set up. To happen once or twice is fine, but so often is behond a joke., The bottom line is, no one can continue this way, not unless they have a endless pocket of money, but I dont!

Someone with knowledge please tell me how poker really is. Is it most of the time about luck and only some times skill??  or vice verse?? At the moment it is all about luck and sometimes skill. I can go to the shop and buy lottery ticket if I want to play a game of luck, or go to the bingo hall.

If I get my chips in when I am in front, have I done the right move? If I have done the right move, why is it that I only seem to win 1 or 2 times out of 10.

Basically I cant afford to put no more money in my account so if what I have left goes, then that is the end of my poker.

:(  I hate moaning but I know, take away bad luck, I will do well but I just can't beat luck.
