Well this are my last days of boring stalling in the Open League and what really helped me in choosing my strategy was doing a little research that really improved my chances to advance to the Premier League:

First to know where I was standing at all times I had to get the formulas for points distribution and then make an excel tabe+graphic to know berforehand how many points would I get for finishing in x position and I even managed to know what position I needed to get to be even in points.

And then throughout the month I made some tests (sitting out, stalling, players going for prize pool or for points, etc.) and this are my results.

1. Sitting out works in the beggining of the month
Just for sitting out in the first tourneys you will get from +11 to +19 points each time, I made a test with my account and a cousins account and I ddint get worse that pos. 1950 (out of a field of 10,000) and there were times that I got to the virtual ITM that was +22 points. Of course as you increase

So if you dont want to play but you can register to many tournaments and you are at the start of the month, do it, I even know some players that has set their alarms in the middle of the night to register and go back to sleep.

2. Stalling works almost every time
Stalling almost assures you to get in the money, and even if you are in the top 500 in the leaderboard at the end of the month, beeing ITM means at least 8 points. By stalling I mean taking as long as you con to make every decition (and by that I mean EVERY one, from start to finish) and playing only in favorable positions and good hands.

Of course it is boring as hell but if you do that you beat the 20% of the field that's sitting out and by the time they are gone the field has shrunk considerably.

I used this strategy moslty at the end of the month if I slipped some positions.

3. When to play for chips and when to stall
The first thing here is to consider your mood, if you don't mind to stall do it, if you want to play some poker do it, but I recomend to gamble and play for chips and to win in the beggining of the month up untill you get to position 250 in the leaderboard or until the 20th of the month if you are in the top 800. Stop gambling after that and stall. But again if you want to gamble go ahead.

I say top 800 because considering that about 40% of the players in the top of the Open League don't play for real money and can't get the 20 VPP necesary to advance leagues that means you don't need to get the 5 dlls prize (top 500) to advance leagues.

And If you get to the top 80 at some point you can definely try to grind some places to be in the top and get those juicy prizes.

4. Know who you are playing against in your table
When gambling do a little resaerch of your opponents to know who plays for the prize pool and who plays for points. Even who plays for points but not for getting to the Premier League.

I looked for some players at my tables in the leaderboard and found out that aprox. 65% of the field plays just for the prize pool 20% or more are sit outs and the rest (about 15%) play for points and from that 15% only 9% plays to advance leagues. I bet you know how to play every type of player. (or maybe later Ill do a blog post about that).
