Fadyen's September Review

By: Fadyen @ 18:12 (EDT) / 398 / Comment ( 0 )

Another month has passed full of the usual ups and downs but how did we end up and how did we get there?

Well as some of you know August ended on a bit of a sour note for me. I was really determined that come the new month I'd start to get out of my slump and for a short time it looked like I was doing just that. The 5NL Zoom tables were being kind and I found myself back up near my peak bankroll. But you know poker, variance and whatnot. About a 15 stack downswing and if I'm really honest this time it wasn't all coolers and bad beats. It really is true, even at the micros, that the game of poker is a fast evolving entity and if you don't adjust to the trends of your opponents what worked just a week ago might not work today. So I made the decision to lay off the cash and do some work and review whilst the PSO series was going on. Probably the best decision I'd made all month.

The PSO series started great, I won the first game and went on to win several more. Work and a social life did mean I missed a couple days games but overall the results kept coming and all my cashes were 3rd place or better. As always though competition is tough and a poor last day meant I slipped to 3rd overall but I still bagged enough points to get me top of the yearly leaderboard which is something I was so determined to do.

That determination to achieve and the urge to work hard also seemed to have reawoken something in me. A love of playing all forms of poker again, whereas the past few months I had just been trying to grind cash for the most part. Sundays, even a couple Saturdays, went back to being MTT days where I played loads of games. Just about anything under the $1 mark and even some bigger games if I had tickets or could satty in. I don't claim to be a great MTT guy but I did get some decent runs to keep me going and even scored $60 in the Big Bang for finishing 10th, a new personal best for that tourney. And it wasn't just MTTs I was fired up to play, Razz and PLO took up a fair chunk of my playing time. Even if it was the lowest stakes going it was a lot of fun and I made a few bucks while I was at it.

As the month was coming to a close though I knew I needed to get back to 5NL Zoom if I wanted to make my Silver Star VIP goal. So I spent the last couple days playing any spare moment I had and finally reached the 500 VPPs with just 3 hours to spare. Maybe not cut it so close next time.

So as usual, cash graph and the months figures:

Starting Bankroll (Sept 1st): $456.56

Current Bankroll (Spet 30th): $500.25

VPPs Earned: 501.25
