The quest for 10BB’s/100 in 2008 went well in February, although it was a shorter month for me playing wise, getting in only about 9 total hours of NLHE cash game play in 12 total sessions. I booked 11 winning sessions and 1 losing one. Again, there were some shorter sessions in there. I should also note that PokerTracker defines a “session” as any sit in on a table. So if I were to play some NL tonight, get in a game that shapes up to be no good, switch to a better table that breaks down 5 minutes after I join, and then find a third, PT will call that 3 sessions. Really it’s like 1 session though, if I were in the casino and switched tables twice, I wouldn’t log 3 sessions at the end of the night, I’d just log 1. In that light, I will begin noting my “sessions” by days (or consecutive groups of sits), instead of individual tables, much like I would in live play. For February I chose NL cash games for 7 of my playing days, and was 6-1 booking wins.
I have to revise January’s numbers a bit, as I failed to include a session that occurred in the clock change over between January 31 and February 1st. Even though it was at 1 AM local time, I would treat this as the night of January 31st in a casino, and have set my PokerTracker to start my day at 5 AM so sessions like this will get picked up as the 31st and not the new day. This was a losing session, so January’s revised “session” numbers by day would be 9-3, and the BB/100 for January went down from 14.35 to 14.00.
February’s win rate improved on that, swelling to 32.43 BB’s/100 for the month. The one losing session hurt (-65.79 BB/100), but not as bad as it could have been, and I had some very solid wins that helped my over all month end on such a positive note. Having some success on a short playing month (short for NL cash games anyway) really makes for some nice looking statistics.
At the end of March, I plan to do a quarterly update as well as the monthly one. I’m off to a 2-2 start for the month so far, but one of the losing days was minor (-0.22 BB/100), so I am still on the plus side of the BB/100 ledger. With a little luck, maybe we can hold off the cards correcting and keep the numbers high through the end of the first quarter. Until next time…
