Hands that leave me laughing

/Dec/2010

Should I fold big hands early or what?

By: Obiden1knobe @ 14:15 (EST) / 331 / Comment ( 0 )
I am trying to my best to improve on my dismal finish from last month and with that in mind I am taking opening myself to advice from those of you who really know what you are doing.  I admitt that I am not that good at this game but at the same time I am willing to listen and learn.  These are three hands that I played recently and would love to get some feedback on what I did wrong with them.  I have heard some players say that they are willing to fold big pairs early and survive to get pass the first hour.  Is that the best way to go?

With this first hand, I had pocket ACES and decided to make a big enough raise so the table would know that I had a big hand.  I felt that with a big raise, seeing as how it was like only my second or third hand played it would send a strong message about my holdings.  I got two callers, and thats exactly what the two guys are, CALLERS.  The flop contained undercards and two diamonds so I shoved, hoping to drop anyone with a diamond draw, well as can be seen here, that didn't quite work.

My lost in that last hand left me pretty short so now I am playing with an eye towards finding hands that could help me chip up and get back in it. I found a pair of QQs and I should have ran away considering the luck I had with them at the end of last month.  But no, I decide to shove and , well take a look.   I had one call, and then another player dedcide to reraise and put the caller in.  The reraise had me and the other caller covered and to my surprise only had KQ off.  I like my chances all the way till the K hit. and knocked my out. In looking back I have to say my shove was out of a combination of caution, fear, and the desire to get something for what I felt was a stong hand.  I was looking to fold the table and run off with the blinds.  it didnt quite work out.

This hand is another example of me not listening to myself.  I was pretty deep in the 8:00 PM tourny and told myself to drop out of this one, the 10:00PM.  but no, I was greedy enough to try to get some points here too. I said I would play tight and only play premium hands because I was jumping from one tourny to another and wasn't investing the proper time to see how players at either table play. When playing I try to see what the others like to do to set myself up to play them and playing more than one table does interfere with this process.  Anyway I got KKs, and a player who I have labeled as fairly tight, shoved.  I gave it some thought and didn't believe he was holding Aces.  I felt that my KKs were good so I called.  Lo and behold another player, one who I have booked as a jacka -- , caller, fisherman, well he called too. when the cards were turned up, the original raiser had AK of, the jack-- had pocket 88s and me the KKs. Well take a look at how this turned out.

I know this is longwinded but hey, I like the sound of my own voice.  If anyone should read this and have anything to offer, positive or negative, it would be greatly appreciated.
Good luck to all on the tables.
