Quick update on 45 man STTs

By: Ovalman @ 09:03 (EST) / 406 / Comment ( 0 )

I wasn't going to update again until the end of November but since switching games to 45 man STTs my game has really improved. I must admit I've ran really hot, winning heads up games with KQ v A3o etc. Without googling I'm guessing I'm a 45% fav in that case but nevertheless while I'm hitting lucky I'm also playing well.

I always avoided multi table tournaments as I specialised in Single tables but I can gauge the right speed in these and I can play my A game, even when multi tabling. A big BIG reason has been the use of Tableninja. I last used this about 2 years ago and liked it but I'm a lot more knowledgable now and it's really helping my game. I now set 10 tables up to start at the same time and play these out until their finished. When the money bubble comes I have only 2 or 3 of these games remaining and they can get my full focus. It only takes 1 win and the 10 tables have been paid for.

I really like Limit games but there's not enough traffic in these to merit multi tabling. There's also a few decent players at higher stakes that restrict me moving up. I also think I was too hard on myself by playing limit cash games. I was averaging 10BB/100  until my final day where I lost all of my profits in a single session. I have to understand that these things happen. I did make mistakes but I also didn't play that badly. I understand that this could also happen in these 45 man games. I've had 2 losing streaks of 13 games where I've failed to cash but I have to look at the bigger picture. There will be days when I lose far more than these but as long as my ROI keeps in the positive I know I'm playing well.

Ciffhangers over I can now brag about my run. I have been running at 63% ROI in 98 games in these 45 mans and I'm halfway towards the purchase of Tableninja.

My sharkscope is also at the highest it's ever been and remember it doesn't count bonuses, rakeback, private games or bounties that's collected.

I'm really pleased with my progress. I'm far more knowledgeable than I've ever been. I work hard and constantly on my game and I can seriously thank PSO for the quality of learning material. I input on threads not because I'm always right but by getting information from other players. It's a 2 way street. Never be scared to give your opinion. Many times when your wrong you get an AHA moment and it transforms your game.

My next move is to up my stakes but I won't do it without proper BRM. I'm serious about wanting to achieve Supernova by the end of next year. I think I can do it but I know it won't be easy. Maximising profits is my main aim so even if I fail to achieve SN as long as I make a profit by the end of next year I won't be dissapointed.

I'm thinking of switching to 27 man STTs. This is because you get STT leaderboard points as opposed to MTT leaderboard points. It's a lot harder to cash in the MTT leaderboard and I either need more volume or higher stakes. I'll stick at these 45 man games for now until I run cold.

Finally some strategy. There are a lot of regs in these. Identify them, work out their game and profit from them. Many are tight passive rocks who only shove premiums. If you have 2 or 3 behind you then exploit them, steal their blinds and take their chips. Similarly, there are some loose aggressive multi tablers - don't be scared of them, never call unless you want to set mine or speculate but just 3 bet them if you have a strong hand. To identify the regs just watch the lobby for 10 mins or so and you can spot them. I've only came across one decent player in these but I suspect there will be a lot more the higher the stakes get.

Till next time, good luck at the tables.
