Hello, I'm new here.... well sort of.

Well not quite. I was a regular 2 years ago and as you can maybe see from my past blogs, I love blogging!

I haven't played Pokerstars much but I do love a bit of value (who doesn't!) so I thought I'd give the Premier League Qualifiers a try. Results have ranged from poor to great but it's likely I may just squeeze in thanks to others not meeting the requirements.

As a tip to others, the Qualifier League is a much easier route into the Premier League. I've been in the Premier League before but never cashed so fingers crossed if I get in this time I can do much better.

It also meant I had to generate a few VPPs. I'd only a bankroll of $40 last week so I've been restricted at the stakes I can play. I've always been a semi decent STT player so it was the 6 max format I decided to concentrate on.

It's highly unlikely I'll generate 150 VPPs in a day but I will be able to play for the 20 points prize in the Premier League next month.

I forgot how much true value is in this league. $5k for top place is nothing to be laughed at. I've switched my ambition from being a massive multi tabler to being a shrewd player who looks for value. Cashing high in the Premier League would earn me far more than I've won through playing STTs.

Hand of the day

Not sure if I made a mistake (cant get the Boom Player to work)?

Villain was a 51/13 whale. My pre flop raise is my standard raise against this particular villain, I will vary my bet sizing to whom I play. I've been doing this bet size with any hand I play heads up. Many regs min raise when they get heads up but I think your losing value against whales like this. 2.5x is a good compromise for your stronger range. His aggression on the flop told me he'd hit a good part but I still think I'm over 50% until I see his hand.

Improving marginal spots like this will only improve my ROI.

Tip of the day

The only thing a whale cares about is his own cards. Don't worry about changing your bet sizing if you've a whale to act after you. A whale is just as likely to call a pot sized bet as to a min raise. Don't get fancy with whales, charge them for your tighter range.

Hopefully that's me in the Premier League. If not I'll try again next month.

Until next time good luck at the tables,

Mark
