European Poker Awards

Hey all, just a quick blog about my trip to Paris this week. It was a quick trip for the European Poker Awards and Wow! What a great city.

Always in awe at the beauty of the place as we drove through the city streets we finally arrived at our destination, the Aviation Club on the Champs-Elysees, a temple of European Poker history if ever there was one.

Over 150 people turned out for dinner and dancing and we had such a fun night emceed by the wonderful Kara Scott.  Bruno Fitoussi, the man behind the Aviation Club and one of the finest hosts you can ever imagine, never spares expense for the party.  After cocktails, hors d’oeuvres and plenty of poker talk, the menu featured risotto, followed by a lovely crisp sea bass fillet served alongside miniature cannelloni, chocolate tart, and one hundred and twenty-six bottles of champagne.

This was the first year that the awards have been sponsored by the Global Poker Index, which is taking over the poker world.  For the first time, there seems to be general agreement among the players that there is a ranking system which accurately reflects the best tournament poker players.  The player who finished 2012 top of the list for both Europe and the world, Marvin Rettenmaier, secured victory by winning the last tournament of the year, the high roller event at EPT Prague.  He had to win or come second in the event to take the title, as

Dan Smith had won a side event in Prague just the day before. Many deserved award winners and congratulations to the Barcelona EPT for winning European event of the year!

Here’s a snap I took of a few of my friends, from left to right:
Jesse May, Kara Scott (Personality of the Year), Joe Beevers (Hendon Mob), Roberto Romanello (UK Player of the Year), Simon Trumper (PokerStaff Person of the Year) and a few friends thrown in for good measure!

I’m reading through your blog posts and forum threads and keep up the good work guys, some great stuff in there. Like I said already there will be an announcement soon on a new tournament just for you guys called ‘The Big Bang’ with a GTD $5,000 … pretty awesome eh?

I’ll be back during the week with another ‘Play My Hand’ blog for you but for now ….

Au revoir!
