Working on becoming a better Poker Player

November started off with a BANG… The BIG BANG tourney that is [… after being awarded a ticket in October].  It was very reminiscent of playing in the Premier Skill League and even though I’ve not played in the Skill League for a while it was great to see / play with a number of league players / PSO members.  I’ll be the first to admit… I’ve not played many tourneys recently, so was a little rusty & was more than a little fortunate [see hand below] on my way to a respectable 70th place for $15 in prize money. TY again PSO.

It was also ‘MicroMillions’ during November & after attending the special promotional live training sessions it enabled me to play in the Pokerschool MicroMillion Mania Sat[s]. for a chance to win 1 of 100 tickets… I won 2 [… from 2] tickets worth $3.30 scoring a min cash in MicroMillions 029 [… & intend to use the second ticket in the Saturday Micro / The Hot $3.30 later this month].

Moving on to my Grinding it UP! Challenge… I got off to a flyer after taking the decision to focus on 5NL Zoom (6 max) in the early part of November & played some solid poker making $100 profit in <9,000 hands.  However, just when I thought I was ‘King of the 5NL mountain’ I ran into to an old friend [… or should that be foe] otherwise known as ‘Variance’.  I lost 14 buys ins ($70) in 4 sessions, which is the worst downswing I have experienced since starting the challenge.  As you will see from my graph [below], I managed to salvage the situation & finished the month pretty strong, which means I am now closing in on a new BR peak of circa. $400.

November 2013 Results

One of my other goals for November was to achieve the necessary 500 VPPs to reach Silver Star status & I thought the best way to achieve this was to register for the November Weekly ‘Possible’ Missions as the target of 150 VPPs [per week] would enable me to reach my goal.  Not only did I achieve my ‘Silver Star’ [… in 3 weeks], I also won $22.50 in prize money in the resulting Weekly Shootouts [… & scored a Big $22 ticket for my ‘Mission Accomplished’ tweet]. TY again @Pokerstars.

All in all it proved to be a very profitable / enjoyable month.  My goals for the end of the year [December] is to break through the $500 BR mark and to maintain my newly gained Silver Star status in to 2014.

At the time of writing, I've started well... adding another $58 profit to my Grinding It UP! Challenge BR.  I am also looking to set some short, mid-term goals for 2014... so watch this space.

Good luck at the tables... Merry Christmas / Happy Holidays & all the best for 2014.
