Thoughtful Thursday

By: ReggaePirate @ 06:48 (EDT) / 82 / Comment ( 0 )

By the end of yesterday I had climbed back up to a ranking to 1742 in the League after the 2pm tournament yesterday finishing in a position around 420 after scoring 52.13 pts. The earlier 10.00am tournament where I had gone out in 3371st place earned me -6.75 pts. I was hoping today be able to knuckle down and start to move further up the table....

However in my 10.00am tournament today I went out on the 13th hand having gone all in, or so I thought with an Ace high straight against two opponents one of whom had a flush.A flush was threatening with 3 clubs on the River but I decided to bet even though I had agreed with myself yesterday that I should not be going all-in unless I had the nuts. So it was a mistake, I went out in 5525th place. I don't know where that will leave me.

All I can hope is for more discipline.....

Yesterday I watched a video by Nick Weatherall proposing an uber aggresive styly of play to improve your progress as a poker player. It was interesting especially the two exercises he recommends you to start with. I am not going to act on this for two reasons. First I want to progress as far as I can in the Open League this month with my present strategy that I have been using to see where it gets me. If nothing else this will give me a good baseline to work from. Secondly I am slightly nervous about adopting a strategy which guaranttees the host of the site a higher rake. Lets face it if you encourage more people to bet aggressively, more money will hit the table and so the rake will be higher.
