Match Report - WCOOP Protégé Event 22

By: Rob Sharona @ 20:21 (EDT) / 862 / Comment ( 16 )

Hi everyone,

Just a quick update really, but my #22 tournament was a great success!  I placed about 580th in what is effectively Sunday Millions tournament. This is massive on so many levels, as while the $488 I won is nice, it brings me very close to a PCA Main Event package as the other protégés failed to cash!

This means if none of the other 3 cash in $5200 WCOOP Main Event, I am GUARANTEED the prize.  Bearing in mind how tough and star studded the field will be, I like my chances!!

Of course if they do cash, I'll just have to go ahead and win more cash!

Highlights of my #22 event include:

- Flopping quads twice! (Once with A5, 555 board, and once with 22 in my BB)

- Realising that the other protégés were out and there were only 80 people until the bubble

- Praying I could just fold to the cash, but waking up with QQ in my BB with 20 people left to bubble!! Luckily I flopped a set

- Jumping out my chair and hugging my brother and nan once the bubble burst!

- Doubling up twice soon after

- Knocking out Joe Cada, WSOP Main Event Champion 2009 (!!!!!!!!!!)

- Feeling like I was in control of my tournament

My bankroll is now is now a very healthy $700.84, and I've never felt more in control of my game. If there's one thing I've taken away from Vanessa Selbst's lessons is the importance of slowing down and thinking about what you are doing. Don't just raise - think why you are raising and what you want to achieve. What will do if Player 6 3-bets you? Could a 4-bet work? What is your fold equity? What is your actual equity? What action will take place to make you fold? What flops will we be active on? What are your opponents likely holdings? How will you extract value if you flop big? etc. etc.  I now think about this kind of stuff BEFORE I MAKE THE INITIAL RAISE and now understand why the pros take so long on TV!

I turn 30 this weekend, so I will have a well earned rest from all this poker malarkey, then one final lesson from Vanessa on Monday.

I can't thank you all enough for the support. You've really got behind, like I know you wouldn anyone else on here.

Don't forget to Tweet #RobLastLonger as this is proving to be the password to the hottest freeroll ever!

May you all forever run good, good luck at the tables

ROB x
