April Big Bang: Part 3

By: Roland GTX @ 06:07 (EDT) / 1442 / Comment ( 3 )

Welcome to the third and final segment of our April Big Bang final table coverage!

Part 1 by CannonLee      Part 2 by ArtySmokesPS

In this installment we will learn how PSO member 0pp0rtunity turned six words into a $945 payday! It all started on April 8th when Bulgarian 0pp0rtunity posted the comment ”Keep up with the good work! ” on the 100K Challenge blog by Team Pokerstars Pro André Coimbra.

This comment earned him one of the Big Bang tickets that the PSO Professor was dealing out to the 20 first commenters! Winning a ticket doesn’t get much easier than that – nice! I spoke with 0pp0rtunity last week. He is a good guy and one of us! Here is what he had to say:

What can you tell us about yourself?
I started playing poker around four and a half years ago and immediately fell in love with the game. Just the experience that I got from playing with my friends in the beginning drove me to try and improve my game, since I wanted to try online and expected that the players would be tougher. In the beginning I used to watch a lot of High Stakes Poker and would have fun watching it, while also learning a lot from the players. I also liked reading articles on strategy, but now I rarely do, kinda got lazy with time passing, but still watch videos and stuff.

I've been playing online for around 3 years now, without too much success I guess. At first I started playing a lot of micro stakes tournaments, even for less than a dollar. Made a couple of deep runs, which gave me some confidence, but soon after transitioned to cash games, which I think right now is also what I prefer. Actually I told myself that April I would only play cash and not a single tourney, but then I found this tournament and decided to play.

How did it feel to win the Big Bang?
It felt great winning the big bang! It's my second biggest cash in my career. Ironically my biggest cash is only $5 more ($950) and it came from a freeroll as well! It was one and a half years ago and the story behind it was pretty interesting, but right now I'll talk about the Big Bang.

Right before going to bed a couple of weeks ago I saw a thread on Facebook posted by PokerSchoolOnline about André Coimbra’s challenge for 2013. It was mentioned there that the first 20 people who comment on this thread will get a ticket for a tourney. I almost forewent that, but decided that I was freerolling and was more curious to see what kind of tournament this would be. So I commented, got a ticket soon and saw that it was a 5k tourney with only 344 participants, which was pretty nice. And then went on to win it just like that! Had a couple of key hands in the tournament and the rest is history.

What are your plans for the prize money?
My plans with the money won- actually the following morning I withdrew the exact money that I won from the tourney and decided to continue to play cash for the rest of the month ( I play 10NL zoom full ring this month ) and just pretend this tourney never happened. I kinda want to take this money and play a little more live poker this summer, it might not be enough but we'll see what happens. That's my goal right now, to get prepared for the summer.

I feel that the big bang is a pretty unique tournament, since it's only one time per month and now that I see that you commentate on the final table I'm just super happy. It makes me feel like I played in the Sunday Million!

Good stuff 0pp0rtunity! Thanks for speaking with me, and once again, congratulations on a well deserved win!

Now, let’s take a look at the video and see how he did it. We join the action with five players remaining and the blinds at 2K/4K plus 400 ante.
