Optimistic after strong start in January!

I spent the first week of January goofing around while finalizing my goals. Goofing around in this case means donking off a few stacks at 5NL... Actually, this is was an excellent reminder of how not paying attention yields negative results.

Once my plans were set, I got serious and focused. My main goal for the year is to become a profitable 100NL reg. Yet, as Profess Awe noticed, I haven’t mentioned if that would be Full Ring or 6-Max, nor if it would be Zoom or regular tables. The answer is, I don’t know. Hopefully all of these formats! Although, reaching 100NL is going to require a serious effort on my part both skill wize and bankroll wize. After an expensive Christmas, I was only rolled only for 10NL at the start of January.

My primary objective for January was to get back to 25NL while adhering to four fundamental goals.

Make a Profit
Cash has been profitable all month on both FR and 6-Max Zoom tables. I played 16K hands running 4.5bb/100 at 25NL. This combined with a big bonus from unexpected tourney winnings made for an excellent month.

Cut Down My Multitabling
This was necessary in order to better play my A-game and focus on learning. I need to break some bad habits stemming from “just clicking buttons” when running too many tables. I have been good all month, never once having more than four tables open, and never once having more than two zoom tables open. This has shown immediate improvements. I’m playing less volume, but making better decisions in the hands I do play.

Good Bankroll Management
I have been disciplined all month, never sitting down at a cash table or tourney I wasn’t rolled for. Rather than regging for $11 dollar tourneys, I opted for $1.10 tourneys which had the added benefit of being significantly softer than the former. I had a few tourney cashes including binking one for a nice $400 cash! It was a turbo rebuy MTT. Luck is always a factor in tourneys, but cutting down on my multitabling definitely allowed better reads.

I am following rather aggressive guidelines at the microstakes - 40 buyins for my grinding level. Once I get 4 buyins for the next level, I’ll take a shot, but drop back down if I lose those four stacks.

I started the month at 10NL, but after a good start quickly had enough to take a 25NL Zoom shot. It was successful and I stayed the rest of the month playing both FR and 6-Max.

Learning
I attended several live trainings in January. I also did more hand analyses than in previous months. Furthermore, I spent a great deal of time studying the hand analyses posted by the others on the Team, as well as, reviewing my sessions in HEM.

February Plans

My February objectives are to continue playing profitable poker on 25NL Zoom and to take my first shot of the year at 50NL on regular 6-Max tables. I had played 4K hands at 50NL in December and was slightly profitable. Moreover, I felt comfortable there. Now I'm looking forward to getting back to that level. I still need to remain disciplined regarding my multitabling and brm.

I no longer consider myself a beginner cash player. I believe I am now at a point where my fundamental game is fairly sound at 25NL and lower. There is still a ton of potential for improvement though, but much is in the nuances. Therefore, this seemed like the perfect time to get some professional help - coaching! Hopefully, this will get me on a fast track toward reaching my long term goals. I am pretty excited about these lessons.

On the learning front, I’ll wait to see what the coaching sessions indicate. Beyond that, it will just be taking advantage of everything PSO has to offer as usual.

I couldn't have asked for a better start on the year. I hope you are on track too

GL and have fun at the tables!
