Yes, I had to sit in my car as I sobbed helplessly after this incident. This time I was the victim ..... of a Random Act of Kindness.
Why is it that unexpected kindness can pierce your armor? When you have tried so very hard to be strong? If someone is hateful or rude to you, it is easy to bring up a shield of anger. I can applaud my friends or strangers good luck or success without poisonous jealousy. I try to be grateful for my health and good friends. I murmur a positive mantra despite current problems. I believe them too. "Today is a good day to be alive!'. 'Something good will happen today!'. How interesting I find life! I can't wait to find out what comes tnext. Yet despite my innate Pollyanna personaility, currently, I hide an inner core of worry.
I went to my local library. I go there often and know the staff well. As I was checking out we chatted a bit and I offered some details of my current struggle. I'm not so different from many of you and from lots of people in the world today.
When I went out to my car, a woman approached me and said 'I couldn't help overhearing, tell me - How Can I Help You Today?'. My shield, my facade crumbled as this stranger offered to help me. All I know about her is that her name was Mary and she was a woman about my age. I won't go into more details. Because that isn't what I want this blog to be about.
I want to Thank You. I want to thank all the people who have ever been kind and never been thanked enough. I want to thank anyone who has ever done a random act of kindness. Thank you to the person who put a quarter in the expired meter. Thank you to the fellow who helped make up the bus fare. Thank you for the kind words. Kind words that fall on my cheek like a balm of Spring rain. Thank you to the person who has bitten back the angry words, taken a deep breath and smiled. To the landlord who gave your tenants a discount in December, thank you! Thank you to everyone who has held open a door for another. To every aunt who has sent presents and never received a note, thank you! To everyone who has shown their cards so I would not writhe in curiosity - Thank you! To everyone who has said 'nice hand' - Thank You! To all the people who have chosen to be nice instead of grumpy or sullen or indifferent - Thank you. To the people who have tried to make the world a better place, thank you. To everyone who has passed it forward, thank you. To all the people who have taken the time to give good kindly advice, thank you. To the person who let the shopper with one item in line before you, thank you! To anyone who has seen a cold, starving, lost pet and saved them - Thank You! You feel guilty when you're getting, it's a strange thing but true. I'm not worthy, not deserving. All I can do is say thank you!
To all the lonely people, to all the ships at sea, to the ones who daily struggle, from my household and me, thank you!
