Hate maniacs? Be the maniac & get payed off.

It has been a while since I was around here but I want to finally share a small tactic I use in zoom 6max, to throw off the players from my game. It doesn't matter whether you are a grinder, HM2 user or occupational. The result stays the same for those who play close attention to my play and seek patterns like I do to others.

Normally I play a really solid game, as explained before. Only 3bet with good hands etc, open not too many hands. Get good valuetown. Fold enough (Maybe even too much postflop. I want to personally thank Sandtrap, due to you I started calling a little more often the check raises or reraises postflop with overcards. overall so far its still profitable.) However this doesn't mean I want to go broke with an overpair.

Besides all the notes and solid play you & I play. You'll find that grinders, or attentive players won't play back at you unless they hit a monster or have a monster. This makes it hard to get value from those players.

It's the first time I mention this, but I LOVE being a maniac myself. I have 3 playstyles.

- Solid play as I do 75% of the time.

- Loose opener + semi aggressive. I'll open alot more hands and play alot more hands. Mostly in position. Playing alot of suited connectors suited cards. Making my VPIP a little higher than is good. I do the around 15% of the time.

- Insane maniac 3 and 4better. You could discribe this mode as a maniac tilter. I will 3bet a lot in position. suited connectors, broadway cards (around 30% of the time) and AK AQ 80% of the time combined with some PP's. Along with people I know that are grinders.  When they 3bet me and my gut tells me this could be a weak 3bet I'll make an easy 2.5x 4bet. (same size as I would with AA.) but not 3x because that 0.5x saves you alot of money if they shove. And you'll have the same fold/call chances.

This maniacism I only play rarely around 10%. But it allows people to write stuff about me like. 4bet folds to 5bet. 3bets me with 67s. Squeezes with crap etc etc. So when I'm not playing that 10% I will get payed out very often with my AA & KK's and other strong hands. My postflop play I won't tell, but then again you have the picture.

If I would start live poker I would mix these 3 plays up aswell. but then I would switch them around more often. Just so they have no clue in what mode I am.

I just finished a NL10 session (not many people have reads on me there yet as my play there is limited, and I didn't play maniac there yet) And I started my 2nd session there this week. Everyone was playing solid against me, and lost 2BI by running in set over set and I don't even know anymore. But I didn't play it bad. So I decided to go in my maniac style, as I only did that in NL5 so far.

In no time I saw people that pay attention adapt to my style. Even though I don't 4bet that often and very often get a fold. I was 5bet 2ce. Noticing they were making moves on me, with AJo... Which is horrendous play! NEVER do that!! 4bet fold to 5bet AJo is fine. But never 5bet AJo. Thats is just so bad. The whole strategy is getting an aggressiev image. And picking up alot of pots uncontested preflop. But never overplaying it so you don't endager more than 1/4th of a BI.

Needless to say a 2BI defesit, was grown in a 5BI profit (so 7BI since maniacism) without having to bad beat or being lucky. This was in less than 1k hands. I switched alot between solid and maniacism. I lost some small pots, win alot of small pots and win big pots! They seem to adapt alot harder in NL10 than NL5. But as it's a small scale so far. I have no idea.

All I do know is that they called my allins twice, with AJo, QKo and postflop they don't give me much credit either.

I can only hope to make such a good continue in NL10, because tbh my profit in there is a little embarassing, and I'm still figuring all the grinders out, and how they play 3bets etc. So I know the small profit is only temporary untill I know most there like in NL5.

Have a nice last week at the tables!
