Back then...

When I was young my Father would always take me to the Rod and Gun Club. He would eventually wind up in the smoke filled back room playing 5 card stud or draw.

My Grandfather would take me to the VFW. It wouldn't be long before he was in the basement sitting at a table himself doing the same.

Nobody had any real money to speak of. The games they played were nickel and dime. Everyone complained about the price of gas, ability to pay the rent, etc...

During the holiday season, the family would get together and a roll of pennies were broken open so all us kids could sit at the table and join in the games.

But that was back then.
