Freeroll tournaments

By: Valakii @ 19:30 (EDT) / 223 / Comment ( 1 )

As I mentioned before, I have been taking part in poker freeroll tournaments since 2008. During these 5 years, I hardly ever won anything special or significant, only a couple of cents and few tickets.
Finishing always in the end of the attendants’ list made me realize that it’s not (only) about luck, it’s about my poor strategy: I do something wrong. I have tried various tips and strategies, but none of them worked. When I had to admit, that I don’t play very well, I changed my attitude: I wanted to stay in the tournament as long as I can – without sitting out. This way, I did not call anything to almost every hand, rather I could pay attention only to the hands that will worth something (e. g. when holding a pair). It made my chances of winning greater; however the play became kind of boring: folding every hand and risking nothing.
Now, I found the balance between the risk and joy of the game. At the beginning I set my goals and clarify what I want to reach in the tournament. Recently my goals were ‘staying in until I reach the position where a minimal amount of the prize is awarded’ or ‘go all in until I reach the first hundred’ or simply ‘all in and let’s see what happens’.
