My journey from PLO25 in search of SuperNova(Elite)
Send PM

This is an old post that I wrote for my PG+C thread on another forum that I have been looking over today adn thought I'd post it here for those of you who play.

3 Betting

3 Betting IP in PLO is very tough to play against and is a lot of fun to do
These are just some basic notes that I’ve taken that will get me keep me thinking.

Thinking is good in poker. Auto-piloting is bad.

1) Isolate weaker players

a Pots usually end up being played multi-way to a single raise.
b When we 3b we knock out players behind us allowing us to play a pot HU with the fish

2) People adjust poorly

a) People 4b lighter
b ) Call too often and play fit or fold (nits)
c ) Call too often and stack off too light (maniacs)

3) Playing big pots IP is +EV – position is king in PLO

4) Value obvs

Hands to 3b

1) Hands that have good preflop equity

a) Hands with big pairs and broadways
b) These hands dominate a lot of our opponents draws and stack off ranges

2) Hands that have good playability post flop i.e. they have a smooth equity distribution

a) This is not exclusive to the flop. It also means we pick up equity on later streets.
b) In low SPR pots we want hands that:
i) Flop equity more often
ii) Pick up equity on later streets
iii)Allows us to barrel more profitably

3) Hands that have a lack of nuttiness (pushing hands)

a) Benefit by seeing the pot HU. Their value is in flopping combo draws and getting stacks in.
b) Clean up our outs by forcing out opponents left to act behind us

When to call?

Calling is better when:

1) We have a pulling hand

a)These hands are more nutty and polarised and like to see flops multiway
i) E.g. AsT98s
ii) Weak AA
iii) Weak KK
b)With these hands we over nut our opponents

2) There is a huge fish in the blinds and 3b would fold them out

a)Obviously there are some fish that NEVER fold

Things to think about before deciding to 3b or call

1) Does your hand play better HU or multi-way?

a) Pushing and Pulling

2) Who is in the blinds?

a) Fish to keep in?
b) Regs to force out?

3) Who is left to act behind us?

a) E.g. Flatting AAxx with a maniac behind allows us to reopen the betting to a 3b and get stack in easier

4) Does our hand dominate our opponents call 3b range?

Anyway I hope this helps some of you with some basic reasoning behind whether to 3b your hand or not.

Hope it helps,

Catch ya later folks
