The sleeping giant awakes!

It has been a good year since I was last around and as long since I created a post.

First of all, why did I leave? - well, i got a new job that I needed to put a lot of time and effort into, besides, I feel that I was tilting a bit before I left and think I might have done something stupid like reload a few times for $10 and play way outside my variance (like $5 headsup and such)

It was time for me to take a break.

I however have had a very busy 2013, a lot went on and I reckon I have learnt a lot in the process. I spotted a "we haven't seen you in awhile" email from Pokerstars, they offered me a free $11 buyin ticket for the anniversary, I played and lost but it gave me the rush that I must say has been missing.

So I have someone helping me with a stake, have completed 3 runs of 25c 45-man games.

I could definetely be happier with my results. My first two runs really got me back into the swing of things but I was still making silly mistakes, like missing out on value with good hands and busting early by getting involved in too many marginal hands. During those 40 games, I averaged out to about 20/45 position, made a few cashes but overall it was a less than ideal performance.

If any of you remember, one of my previous Blog posts discussed average placing. Whilst it isn't a true definition of performance, it is a good indicator of it. The idea is that if you judge the total spots you place each game and then average them out, you will have an idea of how your run (should you play with scheduled runs like some do) went.

So, if one day you are averaging 25 and finding bust outs in the 30-40 region coming up often, when the next day comes and you find 2 runs where you average out 10-15, and no bust outs above 25 then something different has happened. It could be luck or it could be a new level of patience/play-style you have embraced.

Recognizing these patterns is a brief and simple way of seeing how you are doing compared to history.

My 3rd run was much more productive, I managed to end up with placings averaging 15, a marked 25% improvement on the previous 2 runs. I found myself being a lot more patient and getting the best value from my strong hands.

So what is next for me now that I am back?

I hope to continue wish my stake relationship providing that my backer has enough faith to see me past my initial transition back into the field.

I aim to be reporting some good things in the near future.
