All-in

I just discovered the site and am overwhelmed by the amount of info I was unaware of and have learned so far. I've been playing this game for only a few months but have so far been somewhat successful without any "formal" education about the game. There's a big community of players out there who have a lot more experience than me but I really hope my passion for this game eventually leads me to success.

Just last night I grinded it out with bad cards for about half hour at my local game spot. And was knocked out when I bet half my pot on a suited K-J. I know, I know bad decision but there was a really aggressive player that I felt would have called me anyway. And he did. I was at the button so he checked on the flop with nothing much in my favor other than a gut shot straight with Q-3-9. I felt like he mightve folded if I was aggressive so I bet the pot which pretty much left me with nothing. He for some reason thought I had gone all-in and called me. On the turn comes an 8 which doesn't help me much and then he pushes me all in so at this point only a 10 would help me. I realize this but it's too late since I don't have much to work with. So i call. Next time I know even if its a little, I have to get out of my head and realize that I'm gonna miss 90 something percent of the time... now I know...:-D Anyway this fellow ends up having 9s and 8s and takes the pot.

I feel that I'm learning and every experience is teaching me. Next time I just gotta put it more in practice while im playing my game. ....
