Final Table!

By: dashowkiller @ 18:50 (EDT) / 270 / Comment ( 1 )

To follow up on my post from yesterday, the very first tournament I play after watching a bunch of PokerSchoolOnline training videos yesterday, I not only cash, but final table to finish 6th out of 1372 players.

Obviously, there was a lot of luck involved as just about all the races I needed to win went my way and I was getting players to stack off constantly when I had the nuts or the near-nuts.

However, I feel like I did a great job last night of picking my spots beautifully with stealing blinds and being much more aggressive pre-flop and post-flop with hands when a lot of weakness was shown from other players.

The only problem was that my luck ran out as I got to the final table. I entered 3rd in chips and had the lead at one point, but in a turbo tournament, the blinds just seem to surprise you and before you know it, you're down to a 15-20BB stack without having done anything wrong.

Then in the span of a handful of hands, my 10's ran into Q's and then in a button vs. BB scenario, my A-3 suited ran into 10's. Just unlucky really.

On top of that, the even more infuriating part was that I lost all my chips to the player that was being the most passive at the table. And I mean PASSIVE! At one point, with blinds at 50K-100K, she had 25K left behind after putting in her 50K small blind and proceeded to fold! LOL

Of course she managed to win enough all-in hands to keep herself floating and coast to a 4th place finish on account of letting others drop as they tried to win the tournament, but I'll never understand players who get that far in a tournament and then just completely lose all willingness to push for the win.

The other players must have been just salivating at the fact that she wasn't wiling to engage in battles whatsoever. Unless she goes through a great run of hands, she's not going to offer any resistance and is never a threat to win the tournament. More money for the other players really.

All in all though, a good day at the tables and I'll see what I can do later tonight.
