Living Up to my Poker Handle Again

Long time no write, but finally had a chance to play a bit of a limit session today.

One thing I love about PokerSchoolOnline is the abiity to go back into archived videos and take a look at lessons that pertain to certain issues that you feel are hurting your game in one way or another.

For me, I felt like I was losing a little bit of edge lately by being too passive and calling or check-calling too much versus raising, 3-betting and firing on multiple streets.

I've gone through this in the past and I know it's a bad pattern I get into from time to time when I've gone through a stretch of sessions where bad beats have really altered my results. The bad beats subconsciously affect me and to compensate, I get more cautious and think too much about pot control instead of putting my opponents to tough decisions.

By trying to make it easier on myself by being more passive in the essence of pot control, I'm also making it easier on my opponent and giving my skill edge away to my opponent in the process.

It's amazing how much this game is mental outside of just the cards and the players. Anyone who's played this game long enough knows that your emotions, whether you realize them or not, really can dictate how your game is going to be, positive or negative.

So I went and watched a recent video on how to 3-bet in various situations and got some great feedback from the different Pokerstars team members on how to get the "killer" part back into my game.

The other videos that really got me going again were the replays of the SCOOP Final Tables...especially the videos highlighting the high buy-in events.

If you want to get some great tips and tricks, these videos can offer up so much because you get to see in real time with the hole cards exposed how top players are playing and even thinking their way through the full hand from pre-flop to river. Having the pro commentary also gives great insight into how the hand is playing out either correctly or incorrectly.

Happy to say that despite some more bad beats today, I was ahead 12 big bets for the session. The videos really did help to get my game back on track.

Good luck at the tables!
