What's Your Turbo MTT Strategy?

By: dashowkiller @ 20:25 (EDT) / 1591 / Comment ( 0 )

Lately, I've been changing things up with my play by playing one less cash table during my sessions and replacing it with a tournament table. I've always enjoyed the challenge of having to go through hundreds or even thousands of players in order to try and make final tables and get the top prize of winning of these large tourneys.

Despite playing online for many years on different sites, I've never been lucky enough to completely finish off one of these tourneys and it's something I'm constantly striving to do in order to scratch that off my poker bucket list.

The issue I have is that I only have a finite amount of time each week to be able to play due to having a day job and wanting to spend time with friends and family. Therefore, I've been gravitating towards the turbo tournaments.

However, as a limit 6-max cash game player, I'm used to seeing a lot of showdowns and doing my best to outplay my opponents post-flop. As I know, this is something that's not going to happen too often during turbo tournaments.

So, I'm having to improve my NL full-table pre-flop strategy and figure out where I need to fold, flat or just push. Again, because of my limit background, I'm normally in a position to already know what the max price is going to be on any street, but having to take into account that someone can just push in 100-200 times the big blind at any point is something that I always have to adjust for.

It's even more of a pre-flop game when we start talking about playing turbo tournaments with bounties. The great twist that I've gotten into lately has been the tournaments with progressive knockout bounties on players. Anytime I find a tournament like that where I know can play, I'm signing up for it. I would also like to see more Zoom tournaments added to the schedule. But I'm getting off track...LOL

Anyways, here's where I'll ask for your input. What's your overall tournament strategy when you're playing turbo and bounty tournaments and how different do you play them versus tournaments with regular blind levels and more room for playing post-flop?

Let me know your advice and strategies in the comments below and good luck at the tables!
