From high-flying jets to fast-flying bets...

Hello fellow PokerSchoolOnline members!

This is my first ever blog entry, period.  Welcome to my blog!  I´ve been playing poker professionally for just over 5 years, and have kept good records of my daily live results.  However, I have never kept a journal or a blog.

A bit of background on me… I´m 34 years old and was born in Victoria, B.C., Canada, where I lived until I turned 19.  I moved across the pond to the Seattle area, enrolled at Edmonds Community College, transferred to the U of Washington, got my degree in Political Science and was commissioned as an officer in the U.S. Navy through the UW Naval Reserve Officers Training Corps in ’03.  I was accepted for the Naval Aviation program and between ’03 and ’06 lived in Pensacola, Florida; Corpus Christi, Texas; and Kingsville, Texas.  I have flight experience in the Cessna 152, T-34C Turbomentor, T-44A Pegasus, and T-45A Goshawk.  As destiny would have it, my naval air training would come to an end just a couple months shy of aircraft carrier qualifications.

After being up in the air, living the dream, and feeding off of adrenalin rushes, I needed something that appealed to my senses.  I needed competition, strategy, and the challenge of high-pressure situations.  Poker felt like a good fit, so I chose to get another degree… a self-taught poker degree.  I didn´t have anything like PokerSchoolOnline back then, but I sure wish I had!  My first exposure to poker came while in the Navy, playing home games with friends.  After burying my nose in strategy books and online poker for a year or two, I took my game aboard the Texas Treasure Casino Cruise for twice-a-day sailings from October ’07 - May '08, playing mostly $1-2NL, a bit of $2-5NL, and a bit of $5-10 limit hold’em.

When the Texas Treasure went out of business, I went to Lima, Peru for a 6-week vacation.  Four and a half years later, I´m still here!  I married a gorgeous Peruvian girl, we got ourselves an apartment, and the rest is history.  I play live cash games at the Majestic Casino in the Marriott hotel, and online at PokerStars.  That´s me in a nutshell.

I´m impressed with PokerSchoolOnline.  I enjoy watching the training videos, and participating in live training.  I´m just now beginning to read some of the blogs and forum posts.  I figured I´d give blogging a shot myself.  Not sure what I´ll write about or how often, but I think I´ll end up creating a few small challenges for myself and eventually maybe find a way for other members to participate along with me.  Should be a good way to keep us honest with ourselves and on track.

Keep your nose to the grindstone,
