dlinqnt's poker thoughts and progress on the road to pro

Update on my goals and my time line

By: dlinqnt @ 18:45 (EDT) / 543 / Comment ( 0 )
So the games are going well enough, but my time has been greatly restricted.  I haven't been able to play every day, or even for a few days at a time.  that sucks.
due to this unfortunate fact, i am reducing my number of hands per week to 500 or as close toit as i can get.  more is better, of course, but i will be lucky to get the 500.
i am doing fairly well in the cash games and i am still on course.  i did lose some buy ins, but that's going to happen now and then.  all in all, i think i am playing well, but not enough.  i lost a whole buy in on my second hand in a session the other day, but i got it back and then some.  even with a start like that i finished 46 bb's in 101 hands.  that is due mostly to AA v QQ on hand 101 mind you, but i had gotten most of my money back already and QQ had a small stack to top me up.
i am not ready to move up yet, due only to bankroll requirements.  it is tempting to play above my roll because these stakes are sooooo slow for building a stck with, but i am determined to do this right and learn discipline now when the money is small and doesn't rally matter.
in an earlier post, i had mentioned that i had goals set, but no time line to achieve them.  well, now i have the main timeline set:  i am going to give myself a two years from my birthday (which just happend) to be making more money playing poker part time than i make working full time.  i am aiming to be playing at least 5/10 by then, if not higher.
when i get to that point, i am going to tell the mrs that i am building a roll that can cover our living expenses for a year, then i'm going to quit my job and go pro.  it can be done, and i am going to do it.

so there's my timeline.  two years to go pro, or at least be close to a year's salary at work by then.  my mini time lines are tougher to establish right now because i have very little time to play.  that won't last much longer, though, so i can get back to playing.

i believe the best players are the best because of how much experience they have.  even new comers to the game can rack up serious hand histories if they multi table and have the time to play.  maybe that'll be my next step...two or three tables to boost my hands per hour and profit.

new plan!
