About my life and my hyper grind for 2014

The state of 2014

I have been a PS grinder for quite some years now. I'm not the greatest player - there are a ton of better, more awesome poker players out there. I don't profess to be some kind of poker guru or even a good poker player. I'm also not a huge winner, but I make enough to live a comfortable life in the Philippines. I moved there from South Africa around 2 years ago now.

Last year I had thoughts of grinding for SNE, but I didn't really have the roll to grind $30 6-max hypers. So I started out at the $15s and it didn't go too well at the start of the year. I had a break-even January, which was fairly stressful for me. I was moving into a new place, which was unfurnished and I had hardly any cash.

Fortunately I ran much better in February and was able to afford some nice furniture for my house (maybe I will post some photos at a later stage). I ended up playing the $15s for a bit and giving up on the SNE chase. I felt like I was neglecting aspects of my personal life and it didn't feel worth it to me. Money is only one aspect of richness in your life. You have to find what makes you happy in life. In the end it's pointless to be earning loads of money if you aren't spending it in a meaningful way.

Interestingly enough, I do have quite a bit of experience at the $30s and I am profitable at this level, although not a big winner. I finished off the year grinding the $7s pretty hard. I really wanted to earn enough to return to South Africa with my girlfriend and her child. My girlfriend and I already went once about a year ago and I loved it (so did she). Her 7-year old kid is becoming a larger and important part of my life. I was playing hundreds a day and even played 30 days straight in October or September, I forget which. In the end I ran pretty terrible and I just couldn't make it. And that was so incredibly disappointing to try so hard for something and not get there.

Still last year was quite good for me. I made around $30k mostly grinding $7s and $15s, although this year I hope to make more obviously! I'm still not sure exactly what my goals are for this year. Hopefully this blog will help me cement some clearer goals.
