MTT's early vs late registration

Hey all, i was wondering what you guys think about freerolls and $0.11 tournies, when do you think is the best time to get in the tournament, do you register early and jump right in or do you wait to see how many players register and what the eventual prize pool builds up too and than register?

I usually try and catch some tournaments from the start like Open Skill League tournaments (mainly that) and some others once in a while.

Would you register early for the tournies? maybe catch some people "sitting out" or come in later and maybe catch someone on a bad streak and cash in?

Just curious about what others do in these situations like that/
