grimZ's Mostly Live Adventures

Posts about mostly live tournaments, and my progression as a player

Introduction - about me

My name is grimZ. I am a casual poker player who's main objective is to be playing at a decent to high level while participating mostly in live local poker tournaments.

My experience with the game before this point is playing 3 times a week at local pubs for one year back in 2014. I had read the poker basics course on PokerSchoolOnline and watched a few videos but never got very far past that point and tried to learn purely through practical experience. This worked for a while and I was getting to the stage where I could ask my opponent a question and make a decision on wheather they were bluffing or not based on their responce.

Since then I've had about 6 months break in which I played pretty much zero poker. While I still have a few basic knowledge points in my head about poker most of it has dissapeared. Now I've met a few mates who actually enjoy poker and are keen to come to events with me, I've decided it's time to apply myself to strongly improve my poker knowledge and decision making so I can take all their money at the table .

Serious Study

Since I've had such a large break since I've played or read any kind of poker related material, I've decided to go back to basics and solidify my fundamentals. I've re-read the poker basics course and I'm currently going through the Single Table Tournament (STT) course as the Multi Table Tournament (MMT) course recommends going through the STT one first as a foundation.

I also plan to be taking some form of notes before, during and after events I participate in. These notes will be about simple rules and strategies that I want to follow, specific areas in my game that I want to work on, some short hand notation of poker hands during the event if I feel like it's something I'd like analysed later and big mistakes I made during the event.

After each week I'll be posting the above information so that I can reflect on my thinking, decision making and situational awareness. Anyone reading this please feel free to critique the hands and information I post about my nights at these poker tournaments. I am absolutely looking to improve and step up to a higher level. Don't hold back .

The present

Before starting this blog I've played 3 times live with my friends. The place we go to holds poker almost everyday of the week. We've currently decided to go every Wednesday night. The most recent time I played is the first time I took notes before the event and after the event. The results of which I'll be posting in another blog post for self reflection and improvement.

Thanks to anyone reading, I appriciate your time.

Peace.
