How my Game is Improving

This is about how I am improving my game or hope I am

It's funny how sometime you can play your best in this game, but still end up not winning anything.  You can make mistakes and win that hand or play the hand right, but end up losing it.  Poker is a game that relys more on skill then luck although luck does have some small percentage in the game.  A novice poker player can do well at times.  Of course, the more skills you have/develop, the better at the game you'll become.

I had the previlge of playing in the Back Them game on Monday.  There were only 158 entered by picking Marc-Andre Ladouceur to win the Team Pro Heads Up tournament.  1st and 2nd place would get 1,111 Euros plus a EPT Grand Final Package. 3rd to 27th place would get 200 Euros or slightly over $220 US.

I was not sure how I would do in a game like this, as I did not know most of the players and was not very sure how they would be playing.  Now, for those that know me, I (for the most part) do not play with a HUD.  Especially when I'm playing only 1 table.  I find that this helps me to keep my mind focused on the game and the players and keep track on how they play.

When the game began, I took it easy so I could get a feel of how the other players were playing. It wasn't long before I started to get hands that I liked and win a few small pots to increase my stack a bit.  Soon I had doubled my stack and was looking for more.

It seemed that in no time, that the bubble was nearing.  That is when everything really began to slow down.  It appear that the short stack players were dragging their heels hoping/trying not to be the next player out and busting the bubble.  I know what that is like as I've been there, hoping that you can just hold on long enough to make it.

Finally, that 28th person busted out of the game.  I believe that there had to be a worldwide exhale of breath at the same time by all that made it.  It was also great to get a 'Well Done' from Marc-Andre.  So the game resumed and it just seemed to me that it was at a slightly quicker pace than before.  It wasn't long before we were at Final Table.

This was really something for me.  I really didn't think I would get close to being in the Final Table.  I was sure that I would get ITM, but to reach the Final Table was something else.  Of course I done it before in tournements, but these were in ones that had smaller payouts.  So now I'm thinking, could I win one of these EPT prizes?

Well things just did not go my way for that.  The blinds were large, and I wasn't getting too many good hands.  I now down to just over 1 1/2 blinds and I get what I'm looking for.  AT unsuited.  I go all-in and I get 1 caller and he had 6 4 spades.  I'm already rubbing my hands together in the win that I believe was coming.  However, poker can be very cruel.  The flop did not give either of us anything nor did the turn.  1 card to go and it look like I was going to double up.  Then came the river card.  It was a 6 of diamonds.  I was out.

I think I should have been mad but I wasn't.  I was just so happy that I got that far.  I had played against some very good players and got some ralling from friends that were in the game earlier as well as some other friends.

It also was great to have some of the PS Team Pros ralling me as well.  Thank you Adrienne Rowsome, Corey Steel, and the FrenchDawg himself.  It was during this time that one of the players asked: " Who's Gerald?" I typed back saying that it was me.  Right after this, Ashalina77 responded with: "He's a PSO legend"  I'm just glad I hadn't taken a drink at that time as I'm sure I would have sprayed it out from the laughter (or choked).  Thanks Ash your a love.

Thats it.  Hope you enjoyed this
