Stay Positive

I liked the "Chess, not Checkers" post by GraigGuitar. I get it. Now don't get me wrong, I like to vent too, but I'm not going to vent on my blog anymore. That's not helping me or anyone else in the PSO community.

I worked out some quick figures in order to more accurately pinpoint the points bubble. Here's what I came up with. Now keep in mind there are proprietary variables like your starting points. ( you're playing against yourself, like a bowling average or a golf handicap )

The points bubble for an "average" player is at *about* 37.5% ...... # of entrants  X  0.375 = Points Bubble

- EX.
There are1783 entrants to a tournament. Multiply that by 0.375, that should be where you can bust out and neither gain or lose points. In this example if you would finish in 669th place you would gain or lose zero points ( plus or minus 0.50 points )

- Money Bubble

Totally different animal !!!! The points payout on the Money Bubble is a swing of about 60%

Using the example above, the Money Bubble is 178th or exactly the top 10% of the field. The player who finishes 178th will get 60% more points than the player who finishes 179th.

In the 13:00 game on 2/1/2011 the player just inside the money bubble received 38 points. The player just outside the bubble - only one finish position away - received 23.33 points.

If you find yourself about to be "Hornswoggled" by the blinds and you can hold out, do it if the money bubble is that close. You can go for the outright win in the next one. Take the points!

Remember, these are not exact figures. Treat them as guidelines only. I compiled them from the first tournaments in the new month so that points were not too strong of a factor. There are so many variables written into the scoring system that I can't even begin to crunch those numbers.

Best of Luck to All
