Diary of a Tournament

By: joy7108 @ 01:40 (EDT) / 602 / Comment ( 0 )

Oct 30/11

Had a lovely dinner with family, it was my son's birthday.  I entered both Women's League tourneys, then on a whim I entered the Big $2.20.  It has a double guarantee on Sunday of 10K, and there's no PSO 1K tourney, so it fills the void.

So now I'm 293 out of 480 left, tourney started paying at 900.  Into the money, but still below average stack of 39+K.  On top of that, I just got moved to a new table.  I've played most of the tourney to this point at the same table.  All that image building out the window, let's start again.

Pocket jacks - the hand no one knows how to play.  I raise to 2.5k then get reraised to 14K and called by another player, and decide to fold.  Opponents had 99 and KK, K came on the flop, I would have been history, dodged a bullet there.

Time out now, hands are definite folds, 92o, Q5o, 67s OOP in a raised pot, etc.  Play has slowed down a lot in the last few orbits, guess PSO isn't the only place to learn about the clock.  I seem to be holding my place in the standings so far,  295 of 338, but I'll probably have to open up my range soon.  I'd really like to have a decent hand to shove though.

BB is 1.2K now, and my stack is down to 19.7K.  I need a hand, preferably better than the Kh8d I just mucked pre from UTG +1.  The blinds are right next door, lets see what happens.  Pocket sixes in the BB,  everyone folds and I pick up 2.55K.  Guess that's probably the easiest way to play them.

Pocket deuces, all in from UTG for 14+K, I have 20+K and fold.  Couple of hands later As Qc, UTG raise to 2640, I decide to fold.  Pretty nitty, but, flop 8d2c7c, then 3c on turn big bet and I would have had to fold with less chips.

268 of 291 now, I think I've milked this about as far as I can without more chips.  Time to shove something...wouldn't you know it, it's break time.

Stats to this point:

During current Hold'em session you were dealt 251 hands and saw flop:
 - 12 out of 28 times while in big blind (42%)
 - 2 out of 29 times while in small blind (6%)
 - 21 out of 194 times in other positions (10%)
 - a total of 35 out of 251 (13%)
 Pots won at showdown - 7 of 8 (87%)
Pots won without showdown - 13

Kh9h is a good enough reason to milk the clock again, my standing has improved to 265 of 321.  Not much of an improvement.  MOVED AGAIN!!!

Second short stack on the new table, and right into the BB to boot!!  With 79o and a 145k+ all in to my right, this table is my worst nightmare...rapidly approaching 10BB, and no decent hand in sight.  The end might be in sight, I think I have about 2 orbits to pick a hand...263 of 293 now.

I think I might just fold my way down from here, unless I get a really good hand,  why push with mediocre holdings??  83o, that's a pretty easy fold to an 11 K raise.  23o in the small blind is another easy fold.  Wonder what's next, 34 of d is a pretty easy fold too.  Running the time bank now, at least for the first ten seconds.

Pocket 4s, what to do??  Run down your time bank, then fold.  Sorry, I just can't shove with a pair of 4s.  Just folded pocket 6s UTG +1, I hate those small pairs.  236 of 246 now, maybe I'll just keep running the clock.  No hands, so no decisions, it's either shove or fold now.
