A rush of blood to the head

Not just a Coldplay album, but your worst enemy in MTTs.

I've been trying to work on my mental skills over the last week. Concentration, and subsequently maintaining concentration, is going to win you events, not shoving and hoping. The early phase of freeroll tournaments are minefields, and you need your wits about you to avoid calling an all-in from a bingo player and being coolered.

As a result, I'm making the final few hundred a lot more consistently than I have done before. Problem is, after playing for an hour or so, sometimes flawlessly, I get mental block. Hands I would normally have played in the early phase to bully and pick up a few chips seem to trap me in the later phase, I think for some reason, approaching the bubble or a winning mark really makes me feel the pressure.

If I want to eventually turn professional, I need to sort that problem. If anyone has any tips on how to achieve this, comments would be appreciated!

I played in the redtooth playoff game last night, 8 players, one table, the winner progressing to the regional finals. For the first hour or so, I was untouchable. I didn't lose a single showdown pot, bluffed when I needed to, and was really happy with how I was playing.

Then, we were 3-handed and I had about half the chips in play. Then, I lost a couple of races when trying to knock the other players out, and before I knew it, this mental block had me prisoner. I convinced myself to lay down hands where I should have normally at least min raised to see a flop, but my aggression just wasn't there. I eventually finished in second, majorly disappointed to be missing out on the regionals.

Still, there's always next season!
