‘CROWNUPGUY’ Crowned World Champion

By: royalraise85 @ 10:51 (EDT) / 814 / Comment ( 2 )

Fedor ‘CrownUpGuy’ Holz, from Vienna in Austria, was named 2014 World Champion of Online Poker in the early hours of Tuesday morning, winning $1.3 million. The 21-year-old topped a field of 2,142 players in the $5,200 Main Event to win the largest share of the $10,710,000 prize pool.

At a final table that was broadcast live on for the first time, Holz fended off the challenge of Full Tilt Professional Viktor ‘Isildur1’ Blom, who came ninth for $107,100, and seventh-placed Dylan ‘Pokerl)eviL’ Hortin – who finished in exactly the same position in last year’s Main Event – before a six-way deal was struck.

Holz, who won a €2k side event at EPT Barcelona just last month for €43,750 was chip leader when a deal was done, getting a guaranteed $1,100,000, but scooped an additional $200k that was set aside for the winner when he beat ‘theNERDguy’ from Brazil heads-up. In the final hand all the chips went in on the turn in a huge cooler, Holz showing down quad Tens to ‘theNERDguy’s full house.

Speaking to the PokerStars Blog shortly after his win, Holz said: “I always wanted to run deep in such a tournament and it feels amazing to win the biggest tournament of the year. It's my biggest achievement so far and I can't put in words how happy I am.”

The $10.71 million prize pool made it the richest World Championship of Online Poker Main Event since ‘Black Friday’ on April 15, 2011, and the 66-event Championship's total of $61,934,886 in prizes makes it the third richest WCOOP, a little over $1 million less than the 2010 World Championship, which still holds the record.

As a whole, the 2014 World Championship had several notable performances. There were three double-bracelet winners – ‘Aggro Santos’, ‘Assad91’ and ‘WhatIfGod’ – while ‘mikal12345’ became one of just a trio of players to have won three career WCOOP titles, with a victory in event 19 for over $100k.
High-profile players who won an event this year include David ‘WhooooKidd’ Baker, Adam ‘Roothless’ Levy, Sami ‘Lrslzk’ Kelopuro, Joep ‘Pappe_Ruk’ van den Bijgaart, Paul ‘paulgees81’ Volpe, and Jani ‘kiiski’ Vilmunen, who took down the incredibly tough $10,300 8-Game event for more than $231k. He beat Noah ‘Exclusive’ Boeken (2nd), Andrey ‘Kroko-dill’ Zaichenko (3rd), and Matthew ‘MUSTAFABET’ Ashton (4th) at the final table.

This year’s WCOOP Leaderboard winner was ‘Mr Negreanu’ from the UK. He cashed 17 times and made two final tables, including a runner-up finish in event 15. For his efforts he won a Champions Trophy, 2015 PCA package, 2015 EPT Grand Final package and 2015 TCOOP Main Event ticket. Runner-up was ‘psyhoagromor’ from Ukraine, who was just 10 points behind first place and received a 2015 PCA package and a 2015 TCOOP Main Event ticket. Third to fifth places won a 2015 TCOOP Main Event ticket.
