Teepack's Pokerstars Poker Blog

I don't know about you guys, but I am about tired of getting called a Donk everytime I call somebody's big bet and beat them. Two instances yesterday really stand out. First, I called an all-in with an A-J from a late position. The guy who went all-in had A-Q. Of course, two Js come up on the board and I won, and he immediately starts in with the donk name-calling. Really? Calling an all-in with A-J makes me a donk? Just because you lose a hand to somebody that you were ahead of pre-flop doesn't make that person a donk. An A-J is a strong hand. It's not like I called all-in with a 10-5 off and beat you!

The second instance was when I was in the BB. It was an MTT and it was getting late, so we had entered the blind-stealing phase. Everybody folds to the guy with the button, who pushes all-in. The SB folded to me. I had an A-6 off. I figured the guy was trying to steal the blinds, and since I had an Ace, I called. Yes, I had a rag for a kicker, but I still had an ace, and given the likelihood that he was trying to steal some blinds, I figured I had a good chance. Of course, he had a J-8 suited, and I held on to win.

You would have thought I had offended the Pope or something. He immediately calls me a donk for calling with an A-6. I told him he was the donk for trying to steal my blinds with a J-8, and of course he challenges me to a Heads Up Match for $500. Like somehow that's going to settle anything.

Note to all the players out there: Just because somebody wins a pot with a worse pocket than you, or if somebody correctly sniffs out a bluff and wins a big pot from you, that doesn't make them a donk. I don't really care if your rating on the OfficialPokerRankings.com Web site is higher than mine, either. That doesn't really mean you a better player than me, and guess what, the best team doesn't always win any way! As Herm Edwards once said, 'That's why you play the game!'

It wouldn't hurt to show a little civility, and a little more humility for some of you guys would not be bad either.
