Tonight on Jeopardy February 14th 7:30 PM EST a new computer called Watson will compete against the top two best players of Jeopardy. Winner gets 1.5 million.

Heres a link to NOVA which shows the history of Watson being built and programmed by IBM's team.
Very interesting.

Actually going to be 2 games spread out over 3 episodes of Jeopardy so they can show some background on how Watson was "taught" to be a Jeopardy contestant. Through one round Watson is more than holding it's own, despite a little tilt run in the middle of the round. I'm really interested in seeing the top 3 possible responses to each question that Watson comes up with being listed. The programmers are'nt exactly sure and sometimes are even quite surprised, with Watson's responses. As a lifelong fan of Jeopardy, and someone who is always fascinated by scientific breakthroughs and discoveries and what they can tell us and where they can take us, this is really exciting to me. Much like when IBM'S "Deep Blue" program challenged and beat Gary Kasparov in chess years back.

Defintely interesting television for sure. Can't wait for the next 2 episodes.

I had to DVR the first ep and wouldn't read this thread for fear of spoilers...

That was awesome! Loved seeing the "logic" that went into coming up with the top-3 of Watson's answers. This is a pretty amazing break-through that's being presented here.

I was also very interested in how Watson picked the Daily Double on it's first choice... I bet the programmers figured out which box had the most Daily Doubles through the history of Jeopardy and made it choose that spot first to take the "early lead" risk out of the game.
