Hardly.

Quads, especially Quads made in an un-raised pot with 3 of the cards on board, are not all that easy to get paid off on at all.

Rather than worrying aobut getting paid n QUADS, why not bet the 2 spade flop? At that point you are probably getting called by spade draws, baby pp (22-55), and maybe even hands like A2.
Turn comes and now Ts might call a bet, as well as J9 (or even weaker draws).

By the river it is too late: Your opponent probably doesn't have ANY pair, and the pot is too small fo him to bother trying a "hero" call on A or K hi.

This is another example of the "value" of aggressive play, over more passive styles.

See?

1 pair hands do like to pay off sets...sometimes.

This one is a lot different than the last though.

1) far fewer "threats" to yur flopped set.
2) the person in with you didn't see top/top facing draws.

Makes a good flop for your 7's!

Not really...

bet half pot on the 882 flop. Either your opponent calls, or he doesn't.

You have every reason in a blind-on-blind hand to suspect you hold the best hand on that flop. You not only want to bet to avoid palcing yourself in a "tricky" spot if a threat card comes (for you), but you also want to avoid having a scary card come for what your opponent may hold.

Example:

Let's say the villain has 55 on that 882 flop.

He will probably CHECK/CALL a half pot bet from you. Since you are oop though, a "weak" looking lead bet (around half pot) is probably getting at least 1 call from 55. You could then check the turn, and maybe induce a bluff on the river.

If you check/call from oop, you are not only "drying up" any future action (except by better hands than trip 8's), but a card bigger than 55 may hit the turn, and be "scary" for the opponent. If you haven't gotten some value into the pot by then, you aren;t going to get any in after the scare card.

Raise or fold pre. Bet flop, bet turn. Sometimes when you flop a monster you don't get action. All the time that you fail to put money in the pot you don't get action. Keep it to "sometimes" by betting somewhere before the river.

Great reply JD, but let's not nit up the random micro player too much. The guy is not folding any pair or spade draw if you put a gun to his head. And they will make random calls with unpaired hands like QJ (to peel a card), and ace high (because it might be good). The villain can't make a bad call if we don't present him with the opportunity to do so.

Good posts JD!

ant, 2nd hand is better but I think you should still lead out rather than go for a check-raise. You raised pre UTG, you would be continuation betting frequently heads up right? c-betting TT? c-betting AQ? Might as well c-bet your monsters too. The min-check-raise looks so strong here you're lucky the guy wasn't any good and stacked himself off with A9. idk with reads this line can be ideal but in a vacuum cbet your rare monsters in spots you would be expected to cbet moderate strength hands and air as well.

Although I did manage to get 1 bet called It felt like I won the minimum here. JD is right, monster hands are hard to get paid off in limped pots.
BTW what do you think of my bet on the turn? I was trying to give good odds for potential flush draws/1 pair hands, but think a flush draw probably would have called 'sBB so I should have bet more.
