I have just returned from my first live poker experience. I spent the week in Vegas playing the smaller buy ins daily to see if I could emulate my online play live. Caesars has a couple daily $80 buy ins that fetch about 40 players and top 3-7 ITM depending on entrants. Monday and Tuesday were spent there getting slightly past middle of the pack and getting comfortable playing live. Takes some time to get used to counting chip stacks and people have different ways of making that harder by mixing up dirty chips, hiding with their hands, setting the 1k chips back slightly, and setting them behind a beverage. Most of Wednesday was spent searching for cheaper than $80 tournaments with a larger entrants and prize pools. Settled on the Mirage for 2 daily $60 at 11am and 7pm and Harrahs across the street for the 3pm. Hit a third place at Mirage on Wednesday and a 4 way chop at Harrah's that evening so at that point had broke even on the trip. Friday was 11am - 2am tournaments finishing at Caesars for the 11pm which I finished 13th out of around 80, but out of the money. The trip was paid directly off of poker stars bankroll and the idea was to gain live experience which was accomplished. I am seeing the game differently now and the future goal is to roll up to 4k and not let the wife take any out. The goal is to be in Vegas late summer and play at the Venetian Deep Stacks tournaments at around $300 entry. The better players go there and many more entrants than Mirage or Harrah's, or Caesars. It was the off season although but that is what I've discovered on this first trip to Vegas. I was playing much above the 2k bank roll from playing on stars but the experience warranted breaking my 2% rule. Still haven't deposited since Oct 2010 starting at $200, but may have to again from the cost of this trip. Ken Horrell (HurtToSit)

goals: keep learning and getting better. Everything you see, you can learn from.

online: Grow my online bankroll, so that I can play in more tournies (have a start from the WBCOOP with four $11 SCOOP tix). I'm hoping to satellite into a few of the $11 or higher tournies on PS too this year (have gotten into the storm/quarter mil twice and was bad beat in both, want to amend those finishes).

live: keep playing in the smaller casino daily tournies, when possible, to grow a bankroll there (hoping for 3 Vegas dailies when I go later this year and maybe 1-2 at other casinos).

I'd like to win enough from online and casino tournies to play in another WSOP Circuit, when they are in Hammond, IN in October..... and build that into a smaller WSOP tourney in Vegas next year.

2011 Goals:
Continue building relationships online within this community and grow as a person and poker player.

Win current prop bet.

Cash top 10 3 times in 2011.

Live/Online Tourneys:
Currently running tourney chips money up at the STL WSOP Circuit Events. With the help of 3 others we have net profit of $4250. Only a week left to get this to 10K but with added buy in's in tourneys and ME yet to play. We got a shot.

I would like to say that this community will keep you on our toes and learning if you are willing to put in the time. I can't say enough to each and everyone of you. THANKS!!!!

I will continue to grind each and every day. I will use the knowledge gained both live and online and hope to one day not worry about money.

JT

Will do. I hope I can play, as I also might be in Vegas then (like last year) as that trip is set more by my sister's schedule than mine. I'm probably going to be in Milwaukee on the 22nd at Potawatomi, but with the people I'm going with, poker's probably out... will play pai gow for a bit though.

Also... 45 min???? what helicopter are you using or what police escort? It takes me 45-50 min to get there and if my memory's right, you're 2 counties north of me.

My goals for the rest of this year:
Get a top ten finish in the PSO one of these months
Finish in the top 100 of the 10 cent Facebook league this month (currently 12th)
Make a deep run in a SCOOP event
Build my bankroll enough to play in some WCOOP events in the fall

Live poker:
I have never played a live tourney other than home games so this year I plan on entering some live tourneys at a casino and get some experience that way and see if my note taking skills work face to face.

Tell the dealer to have the players clean up their stacks. Most well run tournies have rules about hiding chips, palming, dirty stacks (mixed amounts of chips grouped together) etc... How can you put someone allin when you don't know if you have their stack covered. I play live cash games for a living either in Miami or Tampa Hard Rocks. Broke 6 figures last 2 years in a row. Just started playing tournies recently. Cash is bread and butter, tournies are for dessert!

Most room/tourney managers take care of that pretty quick... at least in the ones I've been in. If you haven't said anything to them (which you probably have), it's a good idea to.

what are your goals for the rest of 2011?

1. Top the leaderboard in the skill league
2. Make the FT in a SCOOP Event
2. Make the FT in a Sunday Storm
3. WSOP Main Event Cash

Do you plan on playing in major Live or Online tournaments?

I would like to get to Vegas for the big show but it will take a lot of luck at this point. I managed a $33.00 SCOOP entry ticket from the Bloggers tourney so I will definately be there trying to represent for the PSO team. Last month I managed to get 2 entries to the Sunday 1/4 Mil/Sunday Storm and cashed in 1 finishing at #2000 out of 42000(App). Right now winning a satty to the Sunday Storm is one of my weekly goals

Do you have a goal that you want to achieve?

Play 1 million hands of poker.
Since I started late last year I have played almost 100,000 hands at the cash tables and in tourneys as long as my bankroll holds up I should hit this goal sometime next year.

How are you preparing for what you wish to accomplish?
Practice, Practice, and more Practice, followed by lots of reading in the PSO libray, researching techniques and tips by reading the PSO forums, and finally some live training when I am awake to catch it or when Dave very kindly adds early classes for us early shifters.

My dream is to be able to play in the main even of the WSOP. I would love to play in it this year, but as me being a super small micro stakes player and not able to work right now, that is more than likely not going to happen. I think we all have that dream or at least most of us. I also have a dream to play in every single event this season of the SCOOP events in the low entry. I have already won 2 tickets: One for May 8th and another for May 9th, of this year. I believe they are the NL holdem $11 event and the $16.50 badugi event. I still have 36 more to go and if I can end up in 1st place in PSO at the end of the month then I can do just that. Right now I am currently in 32nd with 1807.07 points if I am not mistaken. Last month I did horrible in PSO but ended up tied for 7th in the Senior Division of the NAPL which sadly they don't have anymore
Good luck everyone. I play mainly online but have played some live tourneys.
