First off, welcome to the site. Online poker is new to you, so take it easy and slow.

1 ---- The PSO is a freeroll, so enjoy it. Use this league as a testing ground. I'm assuming you're a whitestar in your first month. If you earned 20 vpps last month, ignore this one.

2 ---- Try to play as many of the freeroll astrology games and the $90K sat freerolls as possible. They will give you a lot of experience, and as a special bonus, there is an opportunity at earning some money.

3 ---- If you have money deposited, make sure you earn those 20 vpps before the end of this month so you will be an active player in May. Do not confuse Vpps with Fpps; they are very different. Vpps come from cash games. Fpps are worthless.

4 ---- If you do not have money on deposit, check out the forum for the many opportunities for a whitestar to earn a stake at going active.

5 ---- Got a bankroll? Check out the Bankroll Management Forum. Learn from others the way to build that money into a viable bankroll.

6 ---- Something confusing you, or you want help? Post a question, lots of the people here are nice enough to offer help.

7 ---- Final point. Remember the league is a month long grind. You are NOT playing for those pennies. You want a high enough score to earn cash as a league winner. Top 1,000 if you are an active player, top 200 for whitestars.

Hi Justice and welcome to PSO
My advice for dealing with the downswing or variance is to simply accept it for what it is, an integral part of poker...it's gonna happen time and time again...if you get frustrated, take a break, whether it's for a few hours or a few days...play through it and the cards will come.
Hope this helps
Good Luck and see ya around

Welcome to the league and the forum!
You've gotten good advice here already...remember..we're all learning so take your time and enjoy it. This is a great place to learn so take comfort in that. The downswings are a normal part of poker and you just have to play through it while managing your bankroll so that it doesn't hurt ya' too bad.
I'll be sending you a pm.
Let us know if you have any questions and best o' luck!

Thanks for all the advice so far! Kepp it comming! I do have a few questions though.

How do I know if I am in the league or not?
And I have got 49.83 VPP this month, is that good? Should it be a lot more?
And how do i know if I am in the top 1,000?

It seems to me that with as many players as there are online it would be a very hard thing to get into the top 1,000. As far as tables go I am sticking with the low tables for right now and have also played a few 50/50 SNG's. To me the 50/50 seems like a pretty safe bet due to the fact that if you can get at least 5th you get your money back and hopefully more.

Let the old hedgehog answer these.

1 ----- If you took the core quiz and passed, you are a member of the league. To verify, check under "Requests" and "Tournament tickets" from the PokerStar Lobby. If you see a ticket called "PSO member," you're in.

2 ----- PLEASE, SOMEBODY RESTRAIN THE OLD HEDGEHOG! I have a feeling you are looking at those Fpps. Those are worthless. To verify that you are indeed looking at vpps, go to the PokerStars main lobby, select "Cashier," and scroll down to "VIP Status." That will show you the VPPS earned this month, and for the year. If the current month reads 49.83 VPPS, you will be active in May.

2a ---- You only need 20 VPPS. This doesn't mean you cannot earn more. If you can earn enough points to move from bronze to silver, or higher, more power to you. The 20 VPPS is a minimum.

3 ----- At the top of this page, you will find the word "League." Click on that and it will take you to another page. From there, click on "leaderboard." Type in your handle in the search box and click. Check the green check mark to find out your status and your rank. You need to play a minimum of five games to become qualified.

You're doin' fine ol' hedgehog.

Just a couple things that may be a little quicker.
1. For one click access to your vpps, ..in the top left corner of the main ps lobby, just above all the tabs, (tourney, omaha, stud, etc.) there should be a little vip player points progress bar. If you click that, the window for vpps comes up.
If you don't see the bar, click on options, then customize vip progress bar and set it up...for pso, you could program it to be 20, on a monthly counter.

2. For your rank and the leaderboard, click on your profile in the red welcome box here to the right. Once you get there, click on your red score or rank, and it takes you to your place on the leaderboard and your stats. Then you can hit full leaderboard from there too.

Carry on hedge..community much appreciates it.

I took the quiz yesterday and I did check and I am in. Thanks!
No I am not looking at the worthless FPPS. I am looking at the VPPS.
So really other than getting to a higher star ranking I just need 20 VPPS a month to be active in the PSO leauge right?
And how do I gain points in the PSO leauge? By playing in the PSO Skill Leauge Tournies?
Thanks for your help!

I don't think it can be any better explained than what the old hedgehog has done...here's a couple of links(below) from pso and ps.
Justice has passed the core quiz so he should have the pso ticket...Justice the PSO Skill League tourneys are listed under the Tourney and Private tabs in the GUI...Yes play the skill league tourneys.

Click on the league tab and the red link words to scoring there for explanations....but yes, in the 6 daily freeroll tourneys found in the private tourney tab of ps lobby.
You will have a bit to learn on the scoring...but basically, you earn good points for making it In The Money. From ITM to 3rd, points are relatively same...with nice jumps there, 2nd and 1st. From a certain point to ITM, you will begin to get positive points.....but please read the link in the league tab.
Keep the questions coming.

Very very cool! I think i have all the info I need (at least about the PSO Leauge) so I guess now the thing to do is sit down and do it. Still lots to learn about gameplay, but I am reading and playing so I'll get there! Going to a casino for my birthday in a week and a half! so that ought to be a lot of fun and a learning experience!!

If this is your first time in a casino, a friendly word of warning from one who worked in one.

Take only the money you can afford to lose. Leave your credit cards and your ATM card at home. It is amazing how many people get caught in the glitz that first time. I can tell you from my experience as a table game dealer how many come in with a set spending limit and wind up spending far more because they have plastic-fantastic in their pockets.

Be firm on your time. When that time limit is up, run to the cashier. I don't care if you are on the greatest winning streak of history, leave. I cannot emphasize that more. Casinos make money over time.

Above all, enjoy your time there.

Hi PKRking,

It's not bad going at micro level. Here is a LINK with some info on the PokerStars VIP Program explaining how VPP's are earned and how you can get rewarded.

VPP's reset at the start of each month.

Hope this helps and Welcome to the Forum!
