been trying the same challange since I joined PSO last month so far managed to get up to $106.71 in the last month mainly down to the advice and games I got here as PSO and a nice cash boost from a SCOOP event. Its going to be a long grind I set myself the rule that only moneys directly won from games is counted so thats no free tickets no monthly prizes and no VPP cash outs all the time it's still fun I'm going to keep doing it.
The hard part for me is sticking to the rules (max buy-in, when to quit etc).

I've pretty much been seeing how high I can get my bankroll without making a deposit, not in relation to the Chris Ferguson ESPN challenge.

So far, I'm up to $17.82 and £1.29 in a little over 3 months. Won most of it on the Game Of Your Life promo, a few cents from the PSO games and the sterling from the now discontinued 2K daily SCOOP ticket giveaways.

Started to play cash games now with fairly mixed results. Haven't really set any goals as to how high I can get my BR, just taking it one freeroll/cash game at a time.

And good luck to everyone else trying this.

When you have these small starting pennyrolls the most important things IMO are to...

A. Be SMART with your $. Which means ultra-conservative for the time being. If you are trying to do this without depositing it can definitely be done, not exposing yourself to taking a crippling amount of damage when, not if unfortunately, but WHEN a bad variance run comes is key.

B,Make sure that you are always getting your 20 VPP's every month to be active in PSO as that's where the real money is in the league. If you are going to play PSO,really play it 50+ entries a month, then obtaining your 20 VPP's every month should be priority number one because there is nothing at the levels you should be grinding right now that can consistently do more to advance your roll as PSO can. Look at it this way---Say you play 100 PSO's to garner a top 98 finish for the month and the $50 that goes along with it. That's $50 free and clear as there was no entry fee. Now let's make that LESS attractive for the sake of argument---Say it cost $0.25 to enter EACH PSO and you played 100. That would be a $25.00 investment. But you win $50.00. So you would have doubled your money (a +100% ROI). If there was a $.10 or $.25 game at your current BR levels that you could return a double up on your investment , should you be grinding the living Hell out of it? Bet your ass you should. THAT'S how good a BR building tool PSO can be. If you can master what it takes to be successful in PSO then for right now it can cover the buy-ins for ALL your MTT/SNG plays each month with some money left over (provided that you can win $30 and up).

C. To get those 20 VPP's a month you should be playing low exposure rings. You don't have much in your roll at $5,10,20 or even up to 35/40 dollars. A bad run can be crippling so remember that priority number 1 on the rings (especially at $20 in your roll and less) is to get the VPP's. Play super tight and let the other players build pots for you. Remember as long as you are dealt a hand you receive a piece of any rake garnered. At $20 and below you should really only be playing .02/.04 FLHE in all honesty, with maybe some .01/.02 NLHE mixed in (go Full Ring on the NLHE,it will keep the blinds off you more).

D. Free is your friend. Some peeps get a couple/five/ten dollars in the bank and figure that they have left the need for the astronomer's and the (hopefully) money they can win in the Weekly Round 2's behind. Bad move. Keep grinding out those tickets (and remember that you get absolutely NOTHING more for winning an Astronomer than you do for being the first player out when tickets were rewarded so don't waste a lot of time trying to take one down. It feels nice yes,but it doesn't get you anything beyond that. A ticket is a ticket is a ticket.). Until you get to around $50 I would advise to always try playing BOTH Weekly Round 2's every week.Look say you have $10 in your pennyroll, even a little baby cash for say .45 cents is a 4.5% increase in your total BR. That is not an insignificant amount at this stage.

E. After you make your 20 VPP's for the month now is when you should try to find what (hopefully) will be your best friend(s). when trying to grind your roll up. A GO TO GAME. Simply put this is a game that you can beat consistently for a solid BR building return. Finding one or more of these is key. If you only find one per level that can be enough. Work that sucker like a coal mine once you find it. Good options to try at your levels are the .09+.01 360 and 240 PLO Turbos, the .23 +.02 45 and 90 man Sit and Goes and the .02/.04 FLHE tables (play around with 6 max and Full Ring to see which feels like a better fit to you). But,and this is key, remember to always leave some money in reserve for next month so you always have money available to grind those 20 VPP's for PSO.

As a side note here, yes I fully encourage you to also play the .10 ($50 added) and the .25 ($100 added) MTT's quite a bit at these BR levels as well. But given their very high variance nature MTT's should NEVER be the foundation of your BR building until you have a lot of "cover" in your BR so that you can ride out the inevitable dry spells that will come with regular MTT play. At below $50 BR you simple don't have that yet. On the good side if and when you hit that deep run in an MTT there is no better way to make a quick boost to your ROI and thus your BR than a deep finish in an MTT.

I know that these levels (.02/04 and .01/.02 in the rings and .25 and below for MTT/SNG plays) don't look sexy to anyone but there is real money to be won there and at $50 and below this is where you should be playing. Remember to have proper BR management you must always think worst case scenario as part of your decision making process.

And this is very important to me (and others whose insights on this subject I have read)--If you know that you made proper BR decisions BEFORE you sat down in whatever game you are playing it lets you relax and just play poker. That's a much better mindset to have than sitting down, knowing you over-extended your BR parameters with a given entry, and thinking "I HAVE to cash,I HAVE to cash...".

Good luck,be smart and most importantly have fun.

well i just hit $US 10.51 ( i not been playing for week, so i got week to catch up!)
well im not going to spend money/vpp in till i hit $50.00, and then split into 2 POTS/ money accounts on same 0HighTime0 Account.
1; $25.00 savings / winnings
2; $25.00 to play for money/vpp
all money etc from POT #1 will stay in POT #1 ( only use if needed to top up POT #2 )
all winnings from POT #2 will go in to POT #1

I just had these stats, ( good stats?) before i got done (on river) by my pocket aces to 2 pair KK & JJs

Not to be rude or anything but at this br level there are a ton of soft SnGs out there, i got from 0 to $ 20 in a grand total of three days played via the 25 cent sngs and the 1-seat added 55 cent pso satellite to the monthly 1k added.
cash games at this level are a waste of time imo

(& $ 4.00 on FT)
Yes i know I'm going slow (I'm in no rush at moment, another thing is, i have to watch/budget my Bandwidth, if i go over i can not play for few days/week per month ), but I'm no PRO, so I'm still learning about poker ins & outs, like sb/bb play/stakes etc, poker maths etc, that's why i say ill start playing real money when i hit the $50.00 mark, i should be more ready to spend money (I have only spent $00.10 so far at PS, I'm bit of a Scrooge lol), and i can cover a slide/bad days/weeks when i don't win anything if that happens.
(im member of FT academy to so i have read/watched alot of chris and others advice on BR Management, poker play etc.)
jf70 thank u for ur advice here and in your thread Bankroll Building Tips.

For someone in your position there's not a better friend than the Weekly Round 2'.s. Make sure you're well rested and bring your "A" game. One good run deep can jump your BR by 15-30% in 1 shot. A final table and you're BR ready to start finding cash games to grind. Even though I had passed the "need" to play the WR 2's I still mined the Astronomer's for tickets as it's a good way to get your feet wet and get a feel of games beyond NLHE and a good opportunity for a nice payday.

BTW you know that what you win the tix in is immaterial, you can use them to enter any WR 2,right?

Good Luck HT.

In the couple of months running up to Black Friday I turned $12 into $165 by April 14th multitabling 2NL and 5NL cash tables. A year or two before that I turned $1.65 into over $100 doing the same thing. Once you score a few buck from free games, anything is possible. Just got to focus on whichever game your best at, be very strict with your bankroll(atleast at first), and play lots and lots! Now that your up to about $20 you should be properly bankrolled for a bunch of micro stakes games. Good luck!
