3 guys on a lengthy road trip. They're bagged. Been drinkin' too many road pops, smokin' hi-test bud. It's gettin' late. They decide to pull off the road and get a room for the night.

Front desk clerk looks em over and says he has a room for 300 bucks. They say okay and each of em ponies up a C note and off they go.

A bit later the desk clerk realizes he overcharged. The room only costs 250. He calls the Bell Hop, gives him the details, hands him 50 bucks and tells him to return it to the guys.

Bell Hop figures divvying up 50 between 3 guys is a hassle. He concludes he will return 10 bucks to each guy and keep the extra 20 for himself. This he does.

So, each guy ended up paying 90 bucks for the room. 90 x 3 is 270 bucks, and we already know the bell hop kept 20, which brings the total to 290.

Where's the other 10 dollars?

(As for that other puzzle, you are aware they are making the same deal with the other guy cuz they've told you so in so many words. "....If they both decide to testify then the police will pin them both for a 6-month sentence..."

They also do not have enough for a conviction without testimony. As for the minor charge, bring it on.)

well Red- this one takes me back a bit-- what you have done here is confuse the reader of the problem with extraneous info and failed logic-- much like a bluff in poker-- if the room cost only $250 clerk kept 20 eash man got 10 (30) 250+20 + 30= 300 !!

great math problem analogous to poker my friend-- Where do i collect my balloon?

Yep, good riddle, you're going the wrong way with the bellhops 20 bucks. The men paid (3x90) $270 out of pocket, which = the cost of the room ($250) + the bellhops theft ($20)

Here's another riddle for you:

Four men were in a boat on the lake. The boat turns over, and all four men sink to the bottom of the lake, yet not a single man got wet! Why?

@ monkey, wrong

@ eff, good try, but wrong. (Hint: there is a play on words and you've identified the right word, but the wrong play. )

Right! All 4 men were married.

Here's another one:

A farmer was going to town with a fox, a goose and a sack of corn. When he came to a stream, he had to cross in a tiny boat, and could only take across one thing at a time. However, if he left the fox alone with the goose, the fox would eat the goose, and if he left the goose alone with the corn, the goose would eat the corn. How does he get them all safely over the stream?

dude- dont make come down there- what they spent has no bearing-- its cost - room costs 300 - they give 300- each get back 10 equalling 30 and and the clerk keeps 20 equalling 50 plus the 250 in the till = 300

think of it this way- if they were gonna pay for a 250 $ room- each with a 100 dollar bill- and tip the clerk 20 - how much change would clerk give-- 10- each right? equaling 30----- 250 +30+20 =300

Take the goose over first and come back. Then take the fox over and bring the goose back. Now take the corn over and come back alone to get the goose. Then take the goose over.
