Can anybody tell me what the tought behind playing KQ is when there is a 4 BB raise on the table or a shove?? I know broadway hits easy but that's not it.

my JJ got crushed 2 times today because i got called with KQ.

but everyware i read i have to be causious with this starthand.

the first crush i raised 4 BB in early possition and i get called the second again early but a shortstack shove and got called by the BB who has 1,5 times my stack??

i see this move often withthis hand! are the truly that powerfull or overrated????

Beautiful KQ, when King is on top of the Queen can be tricky, and when Queen is on top of the King its a defo winner, ie (on top) meaning when they r dealt in that position LOL

Too many different factors in poker to ever say how to play kq. Every situation is unique as is every players abilities.

Various Factors:

Example - Your BB with a deep stack and small stack MP shoves, however you're getting incredible pot odds / isolated battle - snap call

Example - Utg raises 3x , Hijack who has played Tag calls and you are in CO - Calling could get dangerous even with position / Squeeze play could be sexy / Folding fine too !

Example - You get them Utg with 15ish bb's on a very Lag table - fold

Example - You have 3 bb's remaining and are first to open with kq - shove

etc etc etc

Some players are very confident in their post flop play and feel they can outplay their opponents. They will call off some raises with kq even though they know they are more than likely behind pre and work it from there.

Others are still new to poker and have trouble folding when they hit a pair and all the warning signs point to danger.

If you are still fairly new to nlhe then I would tend to agree with the "play it cautious" warning as they can get you into trouble. Experiment in the freerolls and figure out where you stand

were the KQ soooooooooted? LOL.

Seriously go to pokerstove.com and download this software to see how KQ off or suited plays against any range. You should be jumping up and down when the KQ calls off against your JJ becasue in the long run you are gonna have a full bucket! Try not to be results oriented but focus on making the right poker move based on your reads.

Gidee Up!

Well tnx but i rarely see à player know what he is doing with them somehow they tend to get pushed. I know u can make loads out of them of played right. Like the 98s an T9s.

What i mean is that i Often see them appear in preflop shoves.

The ones that know how to play them only Shove them shortstacked.

My examples by the way where not soooooooooooted lol

Well for me,

any two cards are playable, l have won the same amount of times with 4 7 off, as l do with AA,

I play the table, position, chip stack etc.

They can't see my cards, getting them to think l have something else other than what l have,

is what l try to do, for me l think this game is more of a mind game than the cards you get,

you can't wait only for the top hands, ATC is good for me,

some call this drunk guy poker
hard to read a drunk, hehe

cheers

l'm no teacher, or pro at this game, very far from it,

my way may not work for all, sometimes does not work for me,

but l focus on the mind game vs cards l get, control over the table is the key,

l will put myself out there by saying, l think we tend to over think this game, this is not the game of bridge, pretty simple if you ask me,

so that being said, have the right mind set, play the table, not your cards,

ok the guys who really know this game, flame away

cheers all

To me KQ is a dangerous hand and I would only play this in position or when I have a good solid chip stack I'll raise this from middle position to get the limpers out of the way. if players fold to you and you're on the co or button it's a nice hand to try and pick up the blinds or call small raises and play the flop. Anyone with a different view please comment as I am still learning

l'm just trying to say no matter if it's KQ or ATC, any hand can win or lose,

l have just as much success with 7 4 off as l do with AA

focusing on your hand is a mistake in my opinion,

not saying l'm right, just the way l play this silly game

cheers

lol my question is not specific in how to play the KQ but more in why people value them so much! and not talking about the donks that value evrything but just the fish. i see them shoving it early facing AK AJ QQ after there shove and win some how lol.

i think it's one of the most played hands i see around the tables, lower limits.

i fold it when i am out of position because the dangers if u miss or get reraised. but i seldom see anyone fold it

it's true i can't see what the hell they are folding. but if i see cards to the showdown it's not seldom that the KQ is involved

l guess it looks like l got away from the original question, but really l don't think l did,

donks/shovemonkeys, will play or call anything, as far as players putting value on KQ,

that may be what your seeing lately, the more you play you will see other cards that seem are being played also,

once again, this is just how l see it

cheers
