So a play money tourney just started a little bit ago, and if you want to play, it's got 60 mins of late reg.
It's called Cowboy's Full and it's for men only....so I just had to post this.
Before I get too bashed on the way I played it...it's play money. While I try to play pretty close to normal in play money, I will get frisky once in a while. This is a move I will commonly make in the first few hands should I pick up a monster. Just to see if I can get a nice double up or better before the maniacs are gone, which y'all know usually doesn't take long. I love not being disappointed.
Just figured I'd have some fun today. I realized what happened in this (the very first hand of tourney) about 4 hands later.

This is not a good raise in a normal MTT Dan.

KK, obviously, is a strong hand.

That means you really want to get PAID off with it.

When a player is extremely LOOSE in his calling standards, there may be times he will call with less (JJ/QQ/TT/AK), but anyone with an ounce of sense "should" recognize that unless you've shown maniacal play before a shove like this, chances are quite good you do not mind a call at all.

At the current blind level, it is a pretty poor play to stack off on a CALL here without the pre-flop nuts if you stand to LOSE your tourney buy in...there is jsut too much time to find a better spot.

When you are practicing poker in a play money game, all that goes out the window.

With nothing at risk, and nothing to gain (except bragging rights), a lot of players simply do not CARE about making the call and losing. That really jacks up the potential for you to get called by less, and having as big a pot as possible pre flop with a hand like KK is good.

So since it IS play money, there is nothing really wrong with this, but you probably do not want to do this too often in real money play.

No doubt JD. That's why I qualified the post with the statements I did. Amazing how many people will call, as one did here, with garbage. Even in sng's sometimes, although not nearly as frequently as in a mtt. And as the hand played out, should I have played it traditionally, I probably would have gotten a much bigger pot by the showdown because of the looseness of so many, early in a play money mtt.
Most of this was over my amusement of the name of the tourney and the fact that this is the very first hand. Cowboys full.
