Time for an update on my cowboys challenge after finishing another 10 tourneys, i think i will post all 20 together and continue to do that so it is easier to follow rather than editing my original message.

20 tournaments into the challenge:

Starting bankroll: 25 x $0.25 =$6.25
1. Nov 1 …. #463177813 …. -$0.25 …. $6.00 …. 21/45
2. Nov 1 …. #463182155 …. -$0.25 …. $5.75 …. 8/45
3. Nov 1 …. #463211412 …. -$0.25 …. $5.50 …. 3/45 …. +$1.70 …. $7.20
4. Nov 1 …. #463212541 …. -$0.25 …. $6.95 …. 3/45 …. +$1.70 …. $8.65
5. Nov 1 …. #463213780 …. -$0.25 …. $8.40 …. 18/45
6. Nov 2 …. #463452801 …. -$0.25 …. $8.15 …. 26/45
7. Nov 2 …. #463483993 …. -$0.25 …. $7.90 …. 28/45
8. Nov 2 …. #463484712 …. -$0.25 …. $7.65 …. 7/45 …. +$0.36 …. $8.01
9. Nov 2 …. #463487356 …. -$0.25 …. $7.76 …. 3/45 …. +$1.70 …. $9.46
10. Nov 2 …. #463593384 …. -$0.25 …. $9.21 …. 6/45 …. +$0.62 …. $9.83
11. Nov 3 …. #463907083 …. -$0.25 …. $9.58 …. 5/45 …. +$0.93 …. $10.51
12. Nov 3 …. #463908604 …. -$0.25 …. $10.26 …. 15/45
13. Nov 3 …. #464062847 …. -$0.25 …. $10.01 …. 5/45 …. +$0.93 …. $10.94
14. Nov 3 …. #464064689 …. -$0.25 …. $10.69 …. 14/45
15. Nov 4 …. #464392533 …. -$0.25 …. $10.44 …. 21/45
16. Nov 4 …. #464394515 …. -$0.25 …. $10.19 …. 28/45
17. Nov 4 …. #464410349 …. -$0.25 …. $9.94 …. 38/45
18. Nov 4 …. #464418674 …. -$0.25 …. $9.69 …. 2/45 …. +$2.22 …. $11.91
19. Nov 4 …. #464420070 …. -$0.25 …. $11.66 …. 12/45
20. Nov 4 …. #464519254 …. -$0.25 …. $11.41 …. 20/45

20 games in and i am happy with my current progress. I think for the large part i have been making sound decisions and playing well, the odd mistake here and there but who doesn't so i wont get to down on myself so long as i believe i am improving. I feel disappointed that i have been unable to win a tourney yet although i have run deep into the final 3 and taking a second place on a few occasions. In all of these deep runs i have got my stack in as a favorite (this is not to complain about bad beats everyone gets them) so i suppose if i continue on this path a victory is just around the corner.

Strategically these games have many soft players and i find playing a very tight tag style is the best way to progress in these stakes. If you can get a hand early it helps but playing tight in order to preserve your stack to leverage fold equity and maximize winnings from your premium hands is imperative for when the blinds increase. IMO stealing is often pointless until the blinds reach the 50/100 75/150 levels as the chips in the earlier levels are not big enough to warrant risking chips to win. You can go a long time without getting a hand in these tourneys and so saving your chips to jam on steals at higher blind levels is extremely important in the middle to late stages in order to survive until a profitable situation to get all in as a favorite arises.

I will continue to play out the challenge and would like to thank everyone who takes an interest and the time to read and comment on it.

Hi robinxt, since joining pokerstars and pso i have played a variety of games at different buy ins. I have played a few micro mtt's (such as big $2.20) but mainly 6max 2nl and full ring cash games (attempting xflixxs challenge i may start a blog soon for that) and 90 man 25c 50c turbos and 1.50 sit and go's. I have also played many 9man 1.50 turbo sit and go's aswell and a bit of plo 6max at 1c 2c blind levels. I hope this answers your question i have played other formats as well but not significant amounts.

40. Nov 10 …. #467396771 …. -$0.25 …. $15.44 …. 24/45

Still waiting for the win, perhaps i am being to aggressive short handed and trying to force the pace which is getting me into spots where i get caught. That being said i have gotten my chips in a long way ahead on many occasions heads up and 3 way and my hands have just not held up for example ak vs aq and a10 vs a9. I am not overly concerned by this newest set of results, hands have just not held which was always going to happen at some point.

Stats: ROI=71.9%, ITM=34%, top 3 places for tourneys cashed=39%.

Another difficult 10 tourneys definitely hit the dreaded variance but after such a hot start was going to be difficult to maintain. Finally binked one tough which helped to bring back my results for the last 20 tourneys.

Unfortunately I have been unable to play many tourneys over the past few days so hopefully i will still be able to complete the challenge. I was able to review some of my tourneys from earlier in the challenge and compare with the most recent results which have not gone my way. I have noticed i have missed some spots and played a little tighter than when i started which may be the reason i have busted many tourneys at around the halfway mark as i have had to go with hands a little earlier and weaker than i would have liked in order to survive. I have implemented a few changes and despite not cashing in these 10 tourneys i have definitely run deeper and feel this adapted style will give me better success for the remainder of the challenge, just goes to show how important reviewing your play can be as i have noticed some subtle differences from the start of challenge to now. I also believe i have had some issues due to increasing to 4 and 5 tables at a time in order to increase volume, i think 3 tables is my limit preferably just 2 as developing reads allows for a better player dependent decision and so i am able to re-steal in order to increase my stack in spots where multitabling i would fold due to lack of a read. Of course there may come a time towards the end of the challenge where volume may become necessary as the end of the month closes in, i will have to cross this bridge when i come to it.
