Hi all

I intend on taking up Cowboy's challenge for November playing the $.50 45mans. I haven't had a great deal of success with these in the past but a just had a reasonable cash in a micro MTT so I reckon I can afford to put the $12.50 at risk. I think I struggle with the turbo format so I may require a bit of advice if I am to succeed. Hopefully I will at be able to get to 100 games in the time period, I will give it a shot anyway. Best of luck to all you other micro grinders out there.

Also I was wondering what people's thoughts are on dealing with the maniacs at the first levels of these tourneys, especially those who just open shove their whole stacks more often than not. Do you take a gamble for the early double up with less than premium pairs? Or sit back and be patient?

Thanks Paul, but it's difficult to fold a largish A to a maniac when the blinds are going up so quickly. I am still getting used to the turbo format.

Today I mainly got my butt kicked, but I managed to take down the last one to turn a profit. Results are below.

cowboy challenge 45man $.50 turbo Bankroll $12.50

1.#467285504 35/45 -$0.50 +$0.00 $12.00
2.#467294056 39/45 -$0.50 +$0.00 $11.50
3.#467373030 39/45 -$0.50 +$0.00 $11.00
4.#467373962 43/45 -$0.50 +$0.00 $10.50
5.#467378925 35/45 -$0.50 +$0.00 $10.00
6.#467379624 28/45 -$0.50 +$0.00 $9.50
7.#467392283 32/45 -$0.50 +$0.00 $9.00
8.#467393073 37/45 -$0.50 +$0.00 $8.50

First 2 or 3 blind levels aren't worth it Swax. Stick to AAand KK and like Mevpaul said if you can get one of the goofs ISO then AK and QQ are in the mix for sure.

And if you get AA or KK there is no sense in doing anything but playing it super fast and aggressive. It's amazing the hands that will call you.

32.#469404866 34/45 -$0.50 +$0.00

Ok so I have made an error in my calculations thus far. Above are the tournaments I have not yet reported, and so now my actual up to date bank roll is $15.44.

That's starting bankroll minus buy-ins plus winnings: $12.50 -(32 *$0.50) + $18.94 =$15.44

game 9 ending balance should be $14.30 not $14.80
it corrects though but you forgot to take the buy in out again at game 19 should be $11.72
game 23 should be $13.06 not $14.06
game 26 should be $14.09 as you have not deducted 5 more buy ins
game 31 should be $15.94
so bottom line is that you shoul dhave a bankroll of $15.44

If I have to babysit you like this again I will have to deduct points! LOL

Sorry Cowboy, As another helpful member pointed out via P.M. I had neglected to deduct the buy-ins from the tournaments that I cashed in. The bankroll below should be correct. I'm halfway through now and just shy of the target for being on course to beat the challenge. However I have made a decent profit over the first 50 games so I am pleased with how things are going. I just need to eliminate some rash and illogical decisions and then I think I have a decent chance of beating the challenge. Thanks to those who have given me advice in this challenge, it is much appreciated.

Unfortunately I'm not going to be able to finish all 100 games in November. I might be able to if I started adding more tables but I don't want to risk that. I will be busy all day tomorrow so I shall call it quits for this month and give it another crack in December.

I am pleased with how things went with the games I did play. I made just over $10 profit from 80 $0.50 45mans. I was getting down on myself in my barren patch so next time I just have to remember to re-focus sooner. The live trainings helped me with that, and I went on a really hot streak over the last 10 games which turned things around. I have a tendency to slip into tight/passive mode when on a down-swing. I think I get too results oriented and tend to fixate on my holdings, whilst neglecting my position and the play of my opponents. Tight/passive in turbos is asking for trouble, so I need to keep up selective aggression where appropriate, even when I don't get my own way every hand.

Congratulations to all the successful challengers in November, and good luck in to all who attempt the challenge in December.

That's the exact attitude to have. You do not want to put in more and more tables if you can't concentrate enough on each one to play your best at ALL of them. Over time, it will get easier and easier for you to be in more tables... until that time comes, don't do it, as you will play worse at them.

What you can do as a test, to see if you're ready for another table.... take what you normally have and try adding a play money table.... but make sure you concentrate the same way on your main table(s). If you get used to adding one, then go for it, if not, then play the number of tables that you CAN concentrate on and play correctly.

The key is that you want to play all the hands at any table correctly, and if adding another keeps that from happening, then don't do it until you're comfortable with it.

Swaxwell,

You took $12.50 and turned it into profit and that is exactly what this challenge is about. For those that can double the 25 buy ins ( obv not easy ) there is an extra reward possibly but you made money and thats a very positive thing. WTG and good luck in Dec.
