Sometimes you'll miss a bet, sure, but it's OK to miss a bet. Poker is an art form, of course, but sometimes you have to sacrifice art in favour of making a profit.

I have been trying to figure out how to put this as a signature for last couple of days. I said this to the guy next to me during my bad run of cards at the casino Friday night:

"You know your having a bad night when seven deuce rivers you" - me

And yeah I really did get rivered by 72o... good times. I was able to fold my pair atleast.

I don't know about favorite but this one still makes me lol. I was playing in a live tournament, still early in the event, and a poker author walks up to my table and tells a friend of his who was sitting next to me that he's out. The friend asks what happened, and he replies "I got all my money in with the worst hand, and it held up."

You have it in your power to turn a bad-beat around simply by realizing this simple truth: The more bad beats you encounter, the luckier you are. It's a sign that you are playing against opponents who continually take the worst of it, and if you can't beat someone who always takes the worst of it, you can't beat anyone. ~Lou Krieger

I've found that some of Sun Tzu's teachings can be applied to poker, including:

"It is said that if you know your enemies and know yourself, you will not be imperiled in a hundred battles; if you do not know your enemies but do know yourself, you will win one and lose one; if you do not know your enemies nor yourself, you will be imperiled in every single battle."

"For to win one hundred victories in one hundred battles is not the acme of skill. To subdue the enemy without fighting is the acme of skill."

"Be extremely subtle, even to the point of formlessness. Be extremely mysterious, even to the point of soundlessness. Thereby you can be the director of the opponent's fate."

"He who wins knows when to fight, and when not to."
