mmm I dont know if this is a bad beat, since the villain was the favor to win at all times in that hand...

That hurts. I certainly would not have put the villain on that hand, except that he was able to limp in from the Button. You certainly had nothing to raise with pre-flop, so he got a cheap look at a flop. His betting on the flop and turn certainly suggested he had caught something. How you get away from your trips and then from your boat is tough. There are only a few hands that could beat you, and his 9-6 was well hidden. On the river I would have been concerned about a straight flush.

You would have been better off holding 72o.
