preflop: you're fine with just calling. If you 3-bet, 34s is probably coming along anyway, so just call for pot control.

flop: here is where you went wrong in the hand. You absolutely need to lead the flop with top pair. Make a std value bet here. By checking, you're letting the opp get a free card to beat you... which in the end is exactly what happens. This is another example of where you played this street way too passively and let the opp get ahead of you due to it.

turn: the board pairs and now you lead out. When the opp raises here, this is where you should be folding. If the opp has a 4, you're drawing dead. If the opp has Ax with a higher kicker, you lose too and there is also a flush draw now out there. A9 will almost all of the time be behind here, so you need to get off the hand now.

river: easy fold (should have folded on the turn).
