EDINFREEMAN HAS GENEROUSLY STAKED ME THE $6.25

This is my first Cowboy Challenge, and I am really enjoying it. It will be the first of many

It makes you look at your game..at least I have worked out an approach to the 45 seater, which I didn't really look into before, but not sure if this is working!! It seems that when the blinds hit the magic 100/50, all hell breaks loose, so I have been trying to accumulate chips too early, before the 100/50, as it is more difficult to get a cheap look at the cards then. Plus I am getting used to how players play from different parts of the world

I was actually going to suggest you give this a whirl in your BR query post Weasel,so I'm glad to see you're trying it.

I really, really can't wait to get back at these games when (hopefully soon) American players are allowed back on Stars. I can tell you that for the 45 man's I ran a 28% ITM number with a +41% ROI over 241 games in the 45 mans and a 32% ITM number with a +94% ROI in the 90 mans, only 60 games there though. I would ultimately want to get to 1000 and 500 of these respectively,if given the chance,as I want to try my hand at 6-8 tabling (or more if I can) on these games. So while I didn't hang up a large sample on these by any means I did play enough of them at a high enough level of success (no really hot or cold runs either,at least not long ones) to know that I can beat them. Just want to give you a little background before I throw a couple thoughts your way on these. You can check my numbers on OPR if you like.

First thing that jumps out at me is that you have way too many early outs so far. Slow it down early, tighten up your range a lot and play the monster hands you do get fast, fast, fast. There is no need to trap and slow play peeps that will call with bottom pair/no kicker and weak draws as so many of these players will. Remember this piece of math before you think about getting too involved in a pot with a speculative hand in the first 3-4 blind levels in these...for the 45 mans you have 67,500 chips in play and 7 players make ITM. That means that the average chip stack to cash is just over 9600 chips. So even if you DO catch when chasing that early double up it's only getting you 1/3rd of the way home to begin with. Not worth the risk. It's the same in the 90 mans.

That leads to this---don't be afraid if you get behind early. Remember, your place in the field CANNOT put you on the rail. Only the blinds can do that,so until the FT don't sweat where you sit in position in the field so much, base your judgements more on where your stack is in relation to the blinds. Read up on push/fold ranges and watch some of the videos on SNG play that are available. You don't need to sweat most of the ATC maniacs that acquire big stacks early, they will give these chips back just as fast as they won them most times. Don't try to beat bad players, make them try to beat you.

Take copious notes. You will see a lot of the same players over and over in these. If you have solid, effective notes on them it can allow you to make a big decision at a crucial time because you have a book on a player. Watch TheLangolier's training video on effective note taking. It's very helpful along these lines.

Concentrate on seeing as many bubbles as you can. If you can get to the last 2 tables consistently in these 2 games then you'll see your numbers go up. Even if you get there short this is the spot in the game where a double up or two count for so much more than they do early in the game. Also look for the bubble watchers who are just trying to ladder climb a min-cash and steal from them as much as possible.Pay close attention to position and effective stack sizes. Don't be afraid to take some flips at this stage of the tourneys. You won't get them all of course, but the ones you do get should set you up to do some damage.

Good luck with this...

Yes, Moxie is very helpful....right I have my games 21-40.

So far, I am just about managing to keep Ed's Bankroll intact, it is a bit of a Helter-Skelter sometimes, but I think towards the end of these results I have shown some improvement.

The results are a bit all-over the place, but I hope by the time the next 20 results are posted, I will have settled down a little.

Having great fun, and learning too!!!

Nice set that 20 Weasel.

You ran 4/20 ITM,which isn't bad at all really. And you made the final 2 tables 12 out of 20 times. Good job on that.

In reality you really ran a little "off" here to only cash in 4 games given the number of 10-15 place finishes you had. So really if you continue that rate of seeing the final two tables at that kind of rate--60%--you should get more 5/20 or 6/20 results consistently. Just that one or two extra times can make a HUGE difference in your results. Giving yourself a chance to get lucky or find some run good late is essential. You can't do doodley squat from the rail. Also the more bubbles you see the better handle on push/fold ranging and blind stealing opportunities you'll have,so you'll be better able to identify and exploit weaker players in these spots. That will help you immensely in moving forward.

You also had a +55% ROI on this set, keep that number anywhere near that level and you'll be a happy camper at the end of the 100 games.

And most importantly,you're having fun.

Keep on bashing.

Right, I have games 41-50...(and then have a rest from the Challenge, PHEW!,, as I am halfway there.
I would like to have a go at something else in the meantime, namely the 0.10NL Tourneys, I tried one last night and I want more!)

A royal straight-flush! Very nice hand. I was stunned when I saw what the other player held. He had to know you had the flush as a minimum. Only reason I can guess for playing was to eliminate you if you were chasing.

Thank you CD, thank goodness this was online and not in the pub (I would have found it extremely difficult to hide any tells when I saw the flop!!) I have only had a Royal Flush once before..., but what a buzz!

BTW, I have been following some of your advice I found somewhere....many thanks CD

Well, my Challenge break didn't last very long. I have decided that 45 seat SNG is what I should be totally concentrating on.

So, I played a few over the weekend, and one this morning.

I have had a poor run, only min-cashing once in 14 games.....but, I've been here before, and I know it's just Mr L.A.W. Ofaverages just doing his thing.

Been doing a little homework too, working on my Early Game,( I wish I had done my Middle and End too!!)

But, a good improvement in that area, so I'm happy, (but not brilliant yet!)

So, here are Games 51-64....

496109540 13/45 6.16
496123580 35/45 5.91
496125822 16/45 5.66
496160948 30/45 5.41
496228500 11/45 5.16

496277826 13/45 4.91
496315684 30/45 4.66
46409905 17/45 4.41
496653219 25/45 4.16
496660064 23/45 3.91

496676394 32/45 3.66
496684792 15/45 3.41
496709953 28/45 3.16
497207440 7/45 3.27

So, just got to keep on going, think about everything, get back on a roll.....

You took your variance run and are still standing. Now go crush the last 36 games. Remember, beating the challenge is great but making ANY profit is always a good thing.
